I thought I would post this into a new thread so it can be searched for easily.

These simple workarounds have worked well for me.

The runaway vol was fixed in the latest firmware. It is on a timer, so if it repeats for 3 seconds, it will stop on its own. An installer can modify the 3 seconds to something shorter. However, 3 seconds seems about right to me (for my receiver). YMMV...

There are two ways to fix other runaways:

If the IR code IS NOT a "repeating code" (meaning NOT volume, CH, FF, etc) and it experiences runaway, you can turn it into a macro, which will not repeat, by adding a blank shortcut or a bogus IR code (a code not for your equipment) into the button.

Example: Target button is DirecTV "Guide" (not a repeating code)

Actions..................................Comments

Run Shortcut Empty.................Create a new shortcut, name it "Empty"
Send IR DirecTV H20................Your target IR Code

-or-

Send IR<2> Anthem Receiver......Find any code for something you don't own.
Send IR DirecTV H20................Your target IR Code

If the code is a repeating code (meaning volume, CH, FF, etc.) you can put a 100ms delay before the code and it should take care of it. The delay is so short, it is unlikely you will notice anything. This should also take care of a runaway volume.

Example:

Delay 100ms
Send IR Yamaha RXV3300

is this ontop of the upgrade?
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

Yes, the upgrade just handles the volume limiting.

i actually experianced this for the 1st time last night with one of the arrow keys... no big deal, just press the button again and it stops. i can see other commands repeating being more inconvenient.

i finally tried this a few days ago with the CH and few others and i have to say it doesn't work and it even makes this problem worse.
i'm guessing its been about 6 months since the last firmware update. why can't they add the volume 3 second run away limiter to every button and be able to change it to something like 1 second.

I didn't post it in this thread, but since people are still having runaway problems, I thought I'd add it here too. I put the IR codes that were having problems with runaway into a shortcut by themselves, and assigned that shortcut to the button. This stopped them from being repeating codes, and stopped the runaway completely. The only bad thing is you can't hold the volume or channel button down to move quickly through the vol or channels. You have to push the corresponding button for each change in volume increment or for each channel change. It wasn't a problem for me since I only change the volume one or two increments at a time normally. Same with the channels. If I want to make a big channel change, I just use the digits to change to the channel I want that's far away. Anyways, that's the best workaround I could come up with, and it's working well for us.

Good luck,
Mark

Folks,

I have had good experience in managing runaways in the two ways I had indicated in the original post.

Marky - When you want to fix "naturally-repeating codes, like volume, channels, etc, my experience shows me not to turn it into a macro but simply add a 100 ms delay before the code. This still allows it to repeat naturally.

Have you tried this and did not get the desired results?

Yeah Dave, tried it, no good. A UEI rep even came out to my house on his way back and forth from Dayton to Twinsburg, and saw it happening. He thinks it's something to do with the Pioneer and Motorola cable box's codes. They are looking into it. Hopefully they'll get a firmware fix for it sometime. Until then, I'm happy with the fix I have noted above, and thought someone else might encounter the same problems. I have a Motorola 6412 III, and a Pio 6070, and the volume I was using was the Pio's. The channel codes I was using was the 6412's. They both ran away very often. It was repeatable on 3 different Nevo's.

Addendum: Actually Dave, it continued to run away with the time delay put in it. Also ran away with the beep put in as well. Seemed like it skipped the beep and the time delay, as it didn't beep every time it cycled during run away.

Hello.

Where can you change the time setting for the volume repeat to stop.
3 sec is not long enough as my amp is slow to respond.

thanks.

I asked the Nevo support team and they sent me a small application which I can use to change the setting on each device.

I'm not sure if you can increase the time delay though. Everything I've ever heard was to shorten the time. I've never tried it personally though.

Hi everyone!

I know this thread is old, but did anybody manage to make the things work with this "runanway" problem? I'm experiencing this on several buttons (the four on top and the volume too)

No AS, we still have it AFAIK. You can read my posts above about putting the IR codes into shortcuts. It stops runaway, but also stops the code from repeating as well. It didn't affect me too bad, so it was the best thing I could do and love my Nevo since I've done it compared to the constant runaway.
