Hi there,

I am just about to purchase a nearly new Nevo SL from an acquaintance but wanted to be sure about a few things;

1. Is it correct that I will receive no support directly from UEI and I have to go to an authorised dealer? If so I am guessing that only paid support will be possible as I didn't spend my money with them in the first instance...

2. The unit was purchased in July this year but once again I am guessing if the original receipt can't be found (and the unit was registered by A.N.Other) then my own support options will be limited? Can original ownership be transferred - the unit is less than 6 months old.

3. Are there any different hard/software revisions that I need to be aware of? I mean was there an early version of hardware that has since been improved/upgraded?

4. Contained in the box are the following;
Nevo sl universal controller
Charging cradle with AC power adaptor
Nevo sl software CD ROM
USB cable
Quickstart guide
Instruction manual
Is that everything? Is anything missing? Is all the software I need on the supplied CD?

5. Is it possible to upgrade firmware/software if required and how can I tell if it has the latest versions?

Are there any other 'gotchas' I need to be aware of please?

Thanks & regards,

dont buy stolen product....

i have nothing to offer you as i am a pro and nevo is to be programmed by pro's
Ed will be known as the Tiger Woods of the integration business, followed closely with the renaming of his company to "Hotties A/V". The tag line will be "We like big racks and tight holes"...

i was worried about the support issue also when i 1st purchased this product as i had never programmed anything in my life and was quite intimidated. i foresaw myself needing alot of assistance with programming etc. i was very wrong. everything you need is in the box (as you described). you will download the software from the disc provided and will then have the option of upgrading to the latest software. everything is very straightforward and very simple so long as you arent setting it up to work on your wifi network.... alot of people seem to run into issues around the wifi.

the only back up you will ever need will be found right here in this forum. unless you by chance buy a lemon... in that case you may want to ask how much you trust this aquaintance.

Prostitutes make the worst programmers... are you a good lay though?
Question for you Ceied:
"Hire a pro" its not just a montra, its a way of life"
you can't be that professional if you don't understand basic grammar (it's has an apostophe)
not if you can't use a dictionary (mAntra)
MONTRA means a watch!!!! and surely if Hire a pro is a way of life why didn't you offer to sell your services to him? Next time if you don't have anything to offer don't click the Post Reply button.

I agree with what StealthX said... a couple of tips from someone who isn't a prostitute.

a) Find ddarche's post and follow the link in his signature... he's got some great white papers on Nevos. it's like an instruction manual should be... i.e. instructions on usage rather than just useless legal rubbish. The networking one is amazing if you plan on doing Wifi connections.

b) don't go for a nevo if you intend to spend no time playing around getting the settings right. it will take you some time. if this daunts you or bores you the product is not for you.

c) The fact that UEI don't support it very well is why they make is "pro's" only. It's not an idiot proof product so expect a couple of irks along the way, if you can live with these then you end up with a great product.

d) the guys on here are very very helpful they should be as much support as you need.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Stealth X & DrKazza, my Nevo arrived today!

StealthX: I have been around long enough not to take muppets seriously nor bait them by replying. Sometimes ignorance is bliss! :-)
Thanks for the info - I am a 'Techy' so playing around with Nevo should integrate nicely into my scheme of things - I am well versed with networking and the Wi-Fi connection would be nice...

DrKazza: I have seen some posts already from Dave D'Arche who is obviously knowledgable about all things Nevo so I will take a closer look.
As I said to Stealth X above I enjoy playing around so am looking forward to getting stuck-in although I need to know there is a solid product under there somewhere! ;^)
This seems like a great resource and hopefully when I am familiar with Nevo I might be in a position to help others.

Until then brace yourselves for an onslaught of questions! :-)

I did read somewhere when you install the software you can register as a dealer instead of end-user and gain access to firmware updates etc.
Is this still possible?

I am lucky in that I have a local dealer whom I have known for many years and spent lots of money who sells/supports Nevo SL and who might just be prepared to assist - I might purchase the NevoLink from him if it will benefit me and maybe he may offer a little help if I need it.

I have checked and see I have v 1.1.0.442 along with 1.0.1.14 loaded into the Nevo so first point of call after I have loaded the software onto the PC would be to update the firmware I guess?

Thanks again guys.

Kind regards,

yeah when you register on their website you can select Dealer/(L)user/Installer from a dropdown but they ask no other questions/verification

yup just install the soft ware then go to the tools or help menu at the top where you will find the option of upgrading the software/hardware. very simple process.

it sounds like this unit will be perfect for you, you should have it figured out in no time. enjoy!

PS:if you would like a copy of my latest set up feel free to email me and i'll send it back. you'll find my email in my profile here on the site.

Thanks again for the replies guys...

When I went to register as an installer it recognised my email address from my old iPAQ 2210 that had embedded Nevo installed so I had no choice but to go for the other option.

Problem was it ignored that I had selected Installer and just went ahead and picked up/chose my existing User status...shame.

Aah well...

Regards,
