Hi,
I have one of the first generation Prontos and it has stopped working.
I'm looking to buy either a new Pronto or perhaps NevoSL.
Are there people that have jumped from Pronto to Nevo and could
say how these compa? From the little I have found on the web (no manuals :-(
I have understood that all the hardware buttons below the screen are freely programmable ? what about entering text fields on the screen among the buttons ?
And does Nevo have Timers ? Can macros be freely prgrammed on any screen ?
I'd be very happy if anyone has answers even to part of my questions :-)
Thanks

Stealth.... don't forget to remind him that UEI really wants to be dealer only and that support and software can be hard to come by.

The Nevo really is ment for DIY guys to mess with it. Its not a stable set and forget option by any stretch. Hobbiest only and a solid interest in messing with it and Windows Media Center Edition.

I jumped from RU950 (TSU 3000) to Nevo ... and then back again.

See my thoughts on the Nevo: [Link: remotecentral.com].

The Nevo's not all bad, but I just didn't think it was reliable compared with the Pronto.

No timers on the Nevo SL. Otherwise, a better all-around unit than the pronto 7500, in my estimation. If you are planning to use IR, it is fantastic.

IMO the Nevo is a great remote design that is just not reliable enough to recommend. If you've been using any generation Pronto for some time the inaccuracy of the nevo touchscreen is going to drive you nuts.

I feel the same as remoteshoppe. Cool remote if you like a toy that needs to be reprogrammed and debuged regularly.

Thanks for honest feedback. I think I'm going to get Pronto 990 aka 7500 model.
NevoSL does show great promise though so let's hope that it continues to evolve.

I disagree with several of the posts here. I have had a Nevo SL in my theater for 1.5 years and it works like a charm.

I also have the liberty of having any remote I want and I chose the Nevo SL.

I have had every Pronto and have programmed hundreds over the years and they have always had issues as well. Nothing is perfect.

My Nevo does not need to be reprogrammed or debugged or tweaked or anything. Those who are having problems in this area should look more carefully at their programming, code learning, artwork problems, etc.

The point wth the Pronto is that it is a mature product and as such operates like one. The Nevo isn't and its operation reflects that.

As far as I'm aware, there was nothing wrong with my code learning/programming & artwork was from the Nevo gallery. I even downloaded your config to compare how quickly your macros ran w.r.t. mine. My config's in the file area - if I was going wrong anywhere, I'd welcome your input.

Springs,

We don't need to talk about anything. How about answering these few simple questions (if you can)?

How many Nevo SL configs have you done in the past 15 months since introduced in version 1.0, 1.1, 1.2 and 2.0 software and associated firmware, using wifi or IR?

How many pronto configs have you done for clients in the past 2 years?

How many RTI configs have you done for clients in the past 2 years?

How many URC configs have you done for clients in the past 2 years?

Let's agree to collect the data and see what develops.

Dave... cool it on the personal attacks.

Pronto PCF configurations on my Memory stick that Have in the field. TSU 7000 amd 7500s
238 (Delivered and in service)

Pronto CCF Configurations Tsu 6000
107 (Have only replaced 10 of them recently as people upgraded.)

Pronto CCF Configurations TSU 2000s and 1000s They were all replaced with newer units over time.

Never did the 3000s and the 3500s as the color TSU6000 was a better choice untill the 7000s came out.

URC MX 850s
24

URC MX3000
2 (only one is still in the field... err the shop as the owner of the company uses it at home.)

Marantz RC 2000s... those were fun.. used to love that clone feature
Billing indicates I worked on 43 of them when they were out.

Sony AV2000
16 (all were replaced to either TSU 6000s or 7000s)

Started working with RTI a few months back but my boss is more comfortable selling Philips.

RTI T3s
8 (Personal favorite for personal use right now but I can not program them with the speed I can on ProntoEdit as I know that editor inside and out.)

RTI T1s
4 (All in the same house as they needed some real basic remotes for TV only on modulator in basement.)

RTI T4s
2 currently as I have deemed them inappropriate for delivery at this time. (Don't trust it yet. That software glitch for total lock up and no video yet. We also had high hopes of integration with the Digilinx systems we do. Still bummed about the flash and java lacks. But Buzz made it sound like they were working on something together.)

Thats all I can look up from here.

No offence was taken. I'm sorry if my response suggested otherwise.
