I have thinking of getting back into the "fiddle with it" remote game for a month. I used to own a Pronto 1000 and I loved it, although my wife hated it!

My question now is, where can I get this remote online? I am hoping it isn't installer sold only, but reading through the forums makes me see that it is. At the same time other posts make me believe it is available for order without going through an installer. Can anyone give me some info on where I can get it from an online retailer, preferably one that publishes the price of the remote on their site?

Thanks for the help!

It was supposed to be installer only... but that didn't take. Lots of dealers should be able to get it for you. There are also some nice guys around this site who sell them too. BTW I AM NOT ONE OF THEM! :)

I agree with Stealth X. I got mine from Dave D'Arche. He's extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Once you get a few concepts down the NevoSL is easy to program with NevoStudio.

i dont know if i'd recommend Ebay, its nice to have some support if you need it.... but i've never bought anything from Ebay.

BTW your wife will LOVE the Nevo- its EASY for you to program it to be EASY for her to use... IMO anyway.(no exp. prior to the Nevo)

I don't get it.... according to the documentation on Nevo's website.. they ain't supporting the DIY period. It says how to get support through your distributor... But the end user manual clearly states..
"your installer... your installer... your installer"
"will have set up for you..."
On and on..

So if you want to diy why does it matter how you get it... they support dealers only.

Just something to think about.

I thought about it, but I found one for 250 euro, complete with NevoStudio. For this kind of money I don't mind doing without support.

The guy I bought it off, had gotten it as a gift with his home entertainment system, and had no clue about programming it and also didn't know what it was worth!

in actual fact the only support i have ever gotten has been from this site. i do like the idea of having a valid warranty though.

I see ebay prices are almost 30% less than some famous online stores mentioned here. Doesn't it make sense for DIY types to take chance on Ebay?

Also, if my HT gear is located in different room, I should be fine if I get NevoLink, right?

I love the way the remote looks very simliar to conventional remotes and then all the nice reviews it gets.

absolutly makes sense to buy from ebay IMO. The installers making money from this are obviously going to disagree and talk about the scare stories where one mysterious customer rang for help or something. Facts are that this is an absolute breeze to setup and configure. Far simpler than the pronto ever was.

Despite what Steve UK says, I have rec'd a dozen emails in the past several months from eBay buyers who are stuck with a dead remote and no where to get it fixed. They have all gone to UEI for repairs and UEI simply tells them to go back to their dealer.

These owners try and find a dealer to work with and no dealer wants to get involved.

I have replaced a number of units for my clients, which are under the original warranty and everyone of them received a brand new unit.

So, this is indeed one of those buyer-beware situations. You buy from an unauthorized reseller like ebay (or others) and you pay the consequences.

The saying goes something like this:

The benefit of low pricing quickly goes away when service and support are unavilable.

This has gotta be the 5th or 6th story I have seen where a unit is purchased from someone who got it as a gift and then didn't want it. Seems kinda strange if they are installer sold only.
The best recommendation for buying from Dave is to look at the posts he has made to help people with remote problems. I bet his customers aren't posting their questions here, they're getting help directly from him. The people he helps out on this site probably didn't buy from him!

Any retailer is going to protect their business. IMO storries which support their business need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Maybe they are true maybe not. No offence intended to any retailers here just my opinions.

I have not had a single issue with my Nevo. I know no one who has. I have seen very few threads here with people coming on with bricked nevos asking for support. Perosnally I would expect people to find their way here first if they did have issues.

Buyer beware for sure but at the same time be aware of the vested interests of the people giving you the information.

Buying on ebay or audiogon will always have these issues. The only reason I am worried about getting it from ebay is 'what' if I can't program the remote and need help? But, looks like it is easy to setup from what all I read in the last couple of days.

When building a Home Theater the savings I can get by buying from Audiogon and ebay is more than couple of thousands.

I see some NevoSL + link going for around $560 compared to almost 1K from dealers mentioned in this forum. So, couldn't resist!
