I would like to use MCE2005 as a UPnP media player so that I can browse the music on my remote and when I press play the song is played in MCE2005, is this possible??

Yes, and right out of the box too!

Load the NevoMedia Manager software on your MCE2005 machine. Once you've done that, this will basically let the NevoSL browse and control the MCE machine's digital media content (music, pictures and movies).

The only other device needed in this equation is a wireless access point to your home network (obviously the NevoSL has to speak to the computer somehow).

In the programming software (NevoStudio), you have to setup a "media zone" for your MCE machine. Basically you'll most likely have the machine be the server and player for that zone (you'll get what I'm saying when you actually use the software).

An added bonus is that you could put another device like the D-Link Media Lounge (DSM-320) in another room, create another media zone in NevoStudio with the MCE machine as the server and the D-Link as the player, and now you'll have multiple locations to stream your MCE content! This is actually what I've been doing with my Nevo (except that my machine is not an MCE PC, it's just a Windows XP machine running the Nevo software) and I have my computer streaming music to three locations in my house.

Enjoy.

Oke, sounds great.. but I have my media files on a other computer, can I install there the Nevo Media Server en install the player on my MCE machine, would that work?

This is what I have:

1 pc act as a file server with Windows Media Connect 2 installed
1 pc with Microsoft Media Center 2005
1 wireless router
1 Nevo SL ;-)

If I install Nevo Media Player on the MCE machine and select the files on my Nevo SL the songs are really played in the MCE interface and not only in the Nevo Media Player?

Thanks.

That should work fine, as long as you install Nevo Media Server on your file server PC and Nevo Media Player on your file playback PC. To my knowledge, the files will playback in Nevo Media Player, not the default MCE interface. Right now, here are the accepted Media players (per UEI): 1-Nevo Media Player, 2-D-Link Media Lounge, 3-Roku M-1000. Hope this helps.

Hi,

I'm a software developer working for digital Home Concept in France, we're currently working on a little addin for MCE that allow to see it as a UPnP Media Player so you can play music in MCE interface directly from NevoSL (or other UPnP Controller). For the moment it only works with Music files, we're currently working on image and videos.

Is there any news in this space? I've just got Nevo Server and Player working and it seems to work fine with my music collection which is held in MS Media Centre 2005.

What benefit could I get if Media Centre was the UPnP server? It seems I can do anything I want with the Nevo software anyhow.

Am I missing something?

Peter.

Hi Peter,

I don't think at the current time, that the actual MS Media Center is supported, as a media server. One thing I have not done is to see if Windows Media Connect will allow you to see the Media Center 2005, as a media server and then play your music through the Media Center software. You can download Windows Media Connect from the MS site and experiment. Would be great if it worked with MCE 2005, as many people are asking about this.

WMC is a download media server which acts like and is supposed to interact with Nevo Media Server, whic I saw that it did. It also manages the various media servers, so you have one interface to manage.

Let us know if you find something interesting.

I downloaded Win Media Connect and installed it on the Media Centre PC (WMC2005).
Nevo Studio saw the new server and I paired it with Nevo Player.
I now have 2 zones in my media zones page, one for the Windows Media Centre and one for the Nevo Media Server.
The new "pair" doesnt have any options under the server heading - ie there is no My Music, My Pictures etc. even though I set them as sharable with any player in the Windows Media Connect window.
The Nevo Server/Player combination still seems to work ok.
Nothing conclusive, but at least the Nevo Studio can see the new server and is happy to pair it with Nevo Player.
No idea at this stage why the sharable folders aren't visible yet, but I'll keep experimenting when I get some spare time.
BTW disabling Nevo Media Server didn't help!

Peter.

In regards to this also, even if I'm not able to browse through the media via the remote, has anyone found a way to control MCE? Not via IR though, but via RF (or WiFi if needs be)? At the moment we are using an RF remote from Logitech.

Has anyone had a chance to work on that? Ta.

I'm guessing from my own MCE computer as well as other comments here that the ability to control MCE depends upon your computer setup. I own a Sony VAIO computer and the remote supplied with the computer is IR, but you say that your computer utilizes an RF approach. I have not had any problems using the Nevo to work with MCE being as it is also IR-based. However, I'd bet you (and anyone else with an RF-based remote) are going to run into a wall when it comes to trying to get it to work with the Nevo (as it is IR-based and therefore it has no way to send RF and your computer is apparently not designed to receive the IR sent by Nevo.

Was the MCE interfacing specifically with the Niveus Denali or was it more of a 'generic' showing of it's ability with MCE?
