1. Is anyone out there using the Nevo to control a matrix video switcher (of any brand)? Thinking about the future, I imagine a bunch of sources in the basement with a switch routing them to various rooms...
Clearly the power is there, are the drivers and UI facilities?
2. Does anyone know of a UPnP server that manages DVD carousels?

The first time I tried to use UPnP was with this remote. The features and compatibility seem much weaker than I was expecting.
No idea with the matrix switcher. If it can be controlled with IR you will be all set.
