It's beginning to look as if we might actually be able to build one of these things before the summer is out!
If that doesn't happen, it's no big deal, but wow, talk about fantastic progress. I'm looking forward to this to such a degree that I have stopped working on editing the MX-500 until this is out and I'll do it there. Of course I would expect that the software, with all the bells and whistles, will take quite a bit of time.
If it's of any help, I have a top VB guy in the office who isn't very busy right now.

Mike, Again it sounds as you have been hard at work. Thanks!
On the topic of error checking, I would assume something like a Checksum or CRC. Might I suggest doing some simple investigations where you change one (1) character of a LCD label and see how the files that you upload differ...
I'm sure you have already thought of this, Just thought I'd post to hear myself talk (kind-of).
Thanks Again, keep us informed.

I moved some files to http://irclone.com/ I hope this helps. Forgive the web-site as it is my first attempt. I don't think the site email works so email me at my email address given here. If you can please put MX in the subject. Mike

Nice work all, esp. Mike C! I use the 500 occasionally for customers who don't want to spend for the 1000, so I as well eagerly await your success! May I suggest that someone pack this thread into an email and send it to URC, just to see if any help is available? Good luck!

URC monitors this forum closely. That's good to hear. Then they should know clearly we really want to be able to program this thing like the inexpensive OFA8811 using JP1. I'd pay for a reasonable mod to my MX-500 by URC.

URC monitors this forum closely. I sent them a reply to a reply I got from them on another topic and asked them if they'd be open to helping the process here. No response.

The email at my site seems to be working now. Thanks for your interest which is very encouraging. Are you able to download the files?

I have uploaded a file to my site from Derek K which is a C program defining how the checksums are calculated. I will convert this into code for my gizmo and test it out, probably over the weekend. Good work Derek!
I have been generating some code that allows me to study the key codes so that we can figure out how they are stored in the device areas. I'll report more on that tonight.

Hi all, I have uploaded three new files to [Link: irclone.com] These files show most of the structure of the Device memory maps. Based on this and some other areas I have been working on I see no reason, at the moment, why an Excel spread sheet or C program couldn't be constructed that would allow the user to program their MX-500 in anyway they wanted on their PC. Have fun with these files. I need to get on with getting the hardware fully designed. The nature of the fine pitch components would preclude all but a few from constructing one at home so I am aiming at creating a reasonably priced dongle as a product. I'll keep in touch. Feel free to email at [email protected]. Mike

Does anyone have a mx-500 that either has never been programmed or has a few devices that still have their default pre-programmed value? If so, could you please post them for us? It might be helpful in figuring out the last few unknown bytes in the files.
Thanks! Derek

I have a couple of MX-500s kicking around in their factory default condition...let me know what you need to know, and I'll post here within a few days of your response (when I get to it). Looks like you're getting close! Keep at it...
