The "Open/Close" button will turn on the combo IF the unit was set to DVD before powering off. So does anyone have a do-able sequence after the "Open"?

DVD/Open/DVD/power for "OFF" - that works everytime (without delays)

ON sequence is a little problematical:

Open/Play - just opens the door. Needs an intolerable 7 second delay to work

Open/close/Play - same problem without the 7 second delay

The VCR has the same issues. When it "opens" you got to stuff the friction based technology back in its mouth.

These codes are for the DVD/VCR. I have used them on two different models one was a DVD-R/VCR and the other a DVD/VCR.

I went to the sight and the instructs looked a little murky. Think you could walk me through the basic steps? I have to spar with this every 6 to 8 months and get a little rusty at it. I have a TSU-2000 I used to retreive discretes. Where I don't quite understand is which box I check (RC-5, RC-6 etc) in the pronto program to convert it.

Search for posts containing the word "makehex" - optionally, specify posts by "johnsfine" (the author of the program).

Makehex is the program you'll use to make Pronto Hex from device:function (Device & OBC) numbers which you can then simply PASTE into the "View IR" edit box for any button on your Pronto.

When all else fails, read the manual.

MakeHex has no GUI, so it is run in a simple but unusual way, as described in its readme file.

read the manual? Does this mean I have to start reading maps too?! (I suppose my wife might be thrilled with that next time we travel.)

Just confirmed discrete hex codes for on and off that are listed above do work fine for the sony dvd/vcr recorder model RDR-VX500.

That is the exact piece I need discreet power codes for. Do you have them in the converted format to use in a MX series?

You are correct. Those commands are in Pronto Hex.

Regarding Frank's question that no one answered in this thread. There are plenty of threads in the URC forum discussing how to get such signals into a CCF file for access by the Universal Browser, and the fact that there isn't yet a path from Pronto Hex to the MX series without going through a CCF file (though one was promised).

I was originally doing a search for Panasonic DVD/VCR discrete codes and found none. This was one thread that came up in the search. I guess the Pannys don't have discretes, except for a single ON code that is in the files section?
