Looks like the Vizio might be left hanging on the wall when we sell the house.  At the time we move in I will be looking for a new LCD.  What should I look for to gurantee I get disctrete IR codes.  Samsung, LG, Toshiba, Sony come to the forefront in my mind.  Is the name any gurantee?  Or is this becomming a bigger problem as cheaper units are made for the Walmarts, and Sams Club offerings?

If its IR
Sharp has discretes, Panasonic has discretes, Samsung has discretes, Sony has discretes, Toshiba has discretes.
If its RS-232
Sharp has discretes, Panasonic has discretes, Samsung is a PITA (you need an adapter and service menu adjustments), Sony has discretes.

I have read posts here about issues with LG, Phillips, and Vizio.  YMMV

Vizio has discrete codes, and in previous installations we have found that using the discrete codes within the URC database via RF only worked for the off command. The discrete ON command would only work via IR and not RF. I had to create two separate TV devices for the remote, one that communicated via RF (Off Command) and one that communicated via IR (On Command). That has been the only reliable way for us to operate a Vizio when the client wants to have the remote power on and off devices as needed. Hope what I explained makes since, and to answer the original question most big name TV manufacturers have discrete commands.

Absolutely NO problems with LG - IR, RS-232 and IP all work fantastic. One of the easiest TV's to integrate with a control system by any standard.

The Vizio I currently have.  It's about 5 years or more old.  VO47LF.  I so far have not found a discrete code for it that works for it.  Right now I'm doing power for it manually and then have a workaround for the inputs.  This isn't my final setup.  This will all change when we get our house finished.  I figured to avoid the hassle I'll swap panels then.  Not going to settle for workarounds if I don't have to.

I agree, LG are normally the easiest to integrate with (normally) published discrete IR and RS232 codes and none of the snafus you get with many other brands.
