they don't exist.  for the one that I installed, I used a video sensor in combination with an msc400 and used it to keep track of the power state, then just used the power toggle command when needed.

personally, i would just leave the unit on all the time and put the power toggle button on a secondary page of the remote in case you need it someday.

thanks. All you replies are working for me.

Curious as to why you say leave the WDTV on all the time? It is not that huge of an energy waster. I have it hooked up to an external HD and that thing is on when the WDTV is on.

Thinking about getting the NeoTV550 as well by Netgear as it does DTS HD MA passthorugh and the WDTV does not.

Don't see any codes for the NeoTV550 or discreet power either

i wasn't thinking about a USB drive, the ones I setup were working off a network drive.  i guess it makes sense to turn it off.

you could use a power tracking variable within the mx980 to track the power status and use the power toggle code i suppose.  it should actually work pretty well considering there are no power buttons on the wdtv itself for someone to push to get things out of sync.

I have no idea how to do a "power tracking variable". Would you be so kind as to walk me through it?

Can the MX receive some sort of signal from WDTV to let it know its on or off? I am a bit confused.

There are no Discretes supplied by WD, but there is a way you can create your own Discrete ON/OFF codes.
Check this link out.

It can be done but there is a lot of messing about & trial & error in making it happen, but it is possible.
The 1st thing you have to do is install the wdlxtv Homebrew Firmware.

But be warned there is always the possibility to, as they say "BRICK" your media player (render it useless).

Good Luck

I am thinking of replacing this unit with the NeoTV 550. #1 for the possibility of discreet power buttons, but more importantly the Neo 550 passes through HD audio and DTS MA and the WDTV does not. The Neo 550 is about $100 bucks now....

I wish WDTV would work out the DTS licensing thing as its capable of passing on the HD audio with DTS, but is not due to licensing.
