Been out of the industry for a bit and I know many of you despise them and they probably do not spec out for some jobs...for these 62 year old eyes that is pulling wire through 3 stories of my own house...these things are the beez neez!!!

P.S. Have any of you changed your opinion of them over the years?

I've never had a problem with them. Recently switched to Simply45. The ProSeries has a cap for the end for a little more peace of mind with High power POE Applications.

I've made my own cat cables for years, and just recently thought I would use some of my old shelf critters for this exact purpose.

As the cables get moved around when I pull the rack, they don't want to work so well, and I am tired of putting new ends on, so I thing a nice 6 slot wall plate, and using premade cat5 jumpers from plate to HDMI matrix would look better, and work better.

Man, I punched down a lot of those old things years ago. Fingers were always sore....

You didn't use the rubber cookie?

I have been using them recently because my boss bought a bunch because he is blind as well. LOL

I have had no issue with them really. But my nice Ideal crimper has apparently gone through a blade really quick, as pin 1 and 8 no longer cut cleanly every time. So now I need to source some replacement blades.

I will not use them on anything related to HDMI. But for LAN connections, I do not have any hesitation using them. To me, it is more time consuming than standard connectors. But maybe that has something to do with having done tens of thousands of those over the years and only hundreds of these.

you guys should be ashamed

I'm too old to remember of all the things I've done in the past that I might have been ashamed of.

The statute of limitations has long since past.. Besides, most of my clients are probably dead by now anyway. LOL

Simply45 and now Simply45 Pro for me. Haven't had any problems yet.

Couple of tricks:

A. make sure you keep fresh blades on your tool. If you are still using the old Platinum Tool, spend a few bucks and get the S45 tool, it's worth it.

B. push the wires through. Don't pull them tight from the other side, or they will want to pull back out after crimping.

Anything that passes power, including POE, over the CAT cable shouldn't be using pass thru RJ45's. You're just asking for a future service call.

This is coming from experience.

I feel like most of our vendors are on board with creating future service calls for us with the half assed hardware and software solutions they are delivering. Why not do it for ourselves? :)

I want all my competitors to use pass thru.

i find if you cut the cables with a flush cutter then pull them back slightly they work fine.

Its a bit more work but nice to verify the cables are all the way through and in the correct order

Been using pass thru 45’s for 24 years... all the time very time. Works every time too! Lol
