I'm programming a Crestron controller with a Samsung IR driver I have been using with many models of Samung TV's with no issues (includes discrete on and off commands that work)....However, when used on a Samsung Frame TV the On command does not function and the Off command toggles the power On/Off.

Has anybody found discrete On and Off that work for the Samsung Frame TV or is there a setting to change the way it responds?

Take a look at this thread. Looks like old power codes work except if you want to completely power off (not to art mode) you must simulate a press and hold by adding repeats.

Please chime in anyone if this is correct because I have to do it to two TVs later this week.

Control IP if you can and power discretes will work. There are also discretes for art mode on and art mode off.

Samsugn removed the discrete IR Power On and Power Off commands for the 2020 Frame TV's. The Discrete IP Commands work, if you can get the damn TV to receive IP commands while its asleep. Also, after a power outage, they refuse to get online. The 2020 Frames also have very limited Art and have removed some of the Art Features. In typical Samsung Style, they are messing up a good thing.

So is the solution just a power off command with multiple repeats? Has anyone accomplished this method via line of sight IR command?

I was able to make a discrete IR "off" command work with a 2020 frame a couple weeks ago using a URC MX-780.  I just used the power toggle command and increased the repeat duration until it worked.

Following up on SB's post, there's this:

If you can construct an OFF command that does nothing while the TV is off and turns it off when it's on, an ON command might look like this:

Newly created OFF command
Slight pause
Toggle POWER command

This has to be used carefully because it will turn the TV off and then on again if you use it when you've programmed a TV to be on. TVs might not like that.

But it should give you an ON command!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Was this via line of sight or emitter?

Emitter through base station, but expect it would work the same line of sight directly from the remote.

My programmer figured out Art on, tv on and volume/mute via serial/S-link on 2020 Frames. It was very much trial and error and a couple of calls to Crestron but he got it working on all 4 Frames on the job.
He tried and failed to find a working "all the way off" code. Client did not care.

IMO on frame TV's, 232 is the only way to go. All needed discrete commands are there using ex-link. We stopped using IR and IP and all our frame problems went away.

Although I have only done a handful, whether a few years ago or this year, I’ve always gotten the discretes to work.

As I recall, earlier models using URC MX remotes, I made a button called Long Off with about a dozen repeats, to give a discrete off. Newer models may need as many as 20-24 repeats.
There is no truth anymore. Only assertions. The internet world has no interest in truth, only vindication for preconceived assumptions.
