Anyone know of a simple IR device that can be used when there are no discretes available. Something that can use power on/off devices. For example I can set up a relay that triggers from the switched outlet on a receiver. If I had a logic device that would send the IR on/off only if the relay was triggered.

Needs to be cheap though. Nothing like AMX or Crestron.

That with a video sync sensor seems like it will solve the discrete on/off problems.

I am not sure what the 590-10 would do for you but I know that the Xantech Gatekeeper works great. It is a small backplane with a master module and spaces for 5 or six more supervisory modules of different types. I needed only two modules for my Mitsubishi 40" CRT and my Pioneer MD which don't have discrete on/offs. I think the ultimate setup would utililze the Gatekeeper combined with their new MAC1 macro-maker. That way only a single IR trip code is required from the handheld and the MAC1 takes over and generates the proper sequencing that the Gatekeeper (and various other components in the system) require.

Gatekeeper is a terrific product but is not for such a basic system.

Jason: Another product that can be useful is Xantech's AC-2, senses video and turn on AC and 12V output.

It depends on what you really mean by "Needs to be cheap though".

You might want to look at Niles IntelliControl. This device will reliably turn your systems on and off. It can also do other cool things. Check out www.nilesaudio.com.
