yah 3 for $199 is nuts.
i was also told you can remotely monitor these systems...which is a big selling point for me.

As far as I can tell so far.... "Remotely Monitoring" would simply require a server on site with Logmein or some other Remote log in/screen sharing stuff.

With 2.0 We'll be able to do a lot more with the system. Currently, you can see if AP's are offline and you can see whos connecting to what AP and activity levels. not much real useful stuff...

The access points do not report their status anywhere that I've found.. Other than the server running the unifi software....

I'm no expert yet, but I dont think that you can just "Check the AP's" without a server....

the "server" does not have to be onsite. from what I have read you can set the server to be a computer at your shop and just check from their all of your clients. of course there is still the guest network to take into account with this setup.

Can you guide me on the exact models that are suitable for wifi use?

Also the models of the managed solution?

We've been using the picostation m2-hp, Baltic has them for under $100 each and come with the Poe injector. Haven't tried any in a managed solution yet.

I spent some time studying it last night. Seems very intriguing especially at this super low price. So we just put in an order for a couple to evaluate. Will report what we find out!

I'm very interested in your findings.

It has its place.
I wouldn't use it for anyone that is a power user or for a an environment that has more than a handful of connections at a time

I'm nothing close to an IT person, but I have been going through Unifi like s*it through a goose and it had been very solid in large homes with 10+ users. I wouldn't call them power users.

The zero handoff works well. Seems to always stay connected, streaming Sonos from "this iDevice" and so on, but I did some experimenting. t seems like it tends to hang on to the first one it sees for a long time. It gets weak enough for a measureable slow down on speedtest and one bar on the wifi symbol, but it will eventually hand off. Is there anything that can be done to adjust this, either on the Unifi or the client?

We are using unifi exclusively at this point. Mostly Pros, but plenty of basic AP's as well.

I have sites with 20-30 active users and no problems at all.

The remote management functions are outstanding and we often know if issues before the clients with the server in the office.

Is there a step in the programming to set up the zero handoff?

yes. If you want zero handoff, you need to set the WLAN up as Zero Handoff.

we actually dont use it much though. Only in situations where there is not much interference around and there is a real need for "zero" handoff.
