Software Managed A/B/G/N scaleable system for less than $200 per AP?

Anyone try this yet?

Park a Minimac on the system for management and go to town?

you don't actually need the controller software on the network unless you want guest. verions 2.0 of the software coming out in the next couple months makes it a pretty good peice. right now its convienent to use to setup multiple WAPS at the same time.

It almost sounds as if this could be similar to Pakedge's Virtual Cell system. Seamless roaming with no handoffs. Multiple physical devices...only one WAP "seen" by clients.

Waiting for experienced opinions on this one.

I spent some time studying it last night. Seems very intriguing especially at this super low price. So we just put in an order for a couple to evaluate. Will report what we find out!

I guess you guys don't pay attention on IP? :)

People have had problems when trying to run UniFi WITHOUT a full-time PC controller. But that's not how it was designed to work anyway.

I love Ubiquiti, but I have a friend who sells both them and Ruckus. Let's just say he pushes Ruckus whenever he can. For a few obvious reasons.

I dont do IP... After the third time I had to resubmit all my info, I gave up....

Anyway, I dont see any issue with running a full time PC with the system if it makes it stable/Work better. a MiniMac is $699 and I'm sure will run happily for months at a time without a reboot or outside intervention. (plus, I have an Unlimited ARD License for remote log in).

I also pushed the powers that be today to order a system to play with. So I will be reporting back in the near future as well.

Unifi System is up and running in our showroom.

Setup was a breeze.

Getting 10-14 meg downloads on my Atrix in most of the store... Pretty nice for a Metal Studded commercial location.

THe unifi server is running on the same minimac that runs my Savant system... Uses next to no resources.

Pretty nice to be able to manage 3 Access points from one interface.

Will report back once I get to play with it some more.

what access points did you use? I love thier product. POE power supplies. great outdoor options. amazing coverage. I have not been disappointed. I'll be excited when the unifi pro comes out. true POE and some great added features. Not sure how the unifi's come if you get any of thier other product the Picostation-M2HP is a great outdoor unit I use inside all the time. You need to turn airmax off and switch to 20mhz.

Does unifi just offer a single interface for managing multiple saps or does it help with roaming and act like a ap controller?
