First, if there is a better forum or site to post this, let me know.

I searched for this but couldn't find anything (I know!, I couldn't believe it either).
Anyways, client wants me to provide her with security stickers like the ones ADT uses.
She wants window and yard signs, so now the question is, do I go generic or do I put my name on it?
I've used some generic signs but wanted to know what you think about having a sign made with your company info (Name, Tel #, website? ).
I use an alarm monitoring service, so I'm not even sure if putting something like "Warning, Electronic security & CCTV monitoring provided by Hi-Tech Homes" is OK since I'm the installer but do farm out monitoring. Also, do I want the phone calls at 3am because cops responded to burg alarm call and my tel # is on the window sticker.

Do you think this is a good advertisement, revenue generator, or do you stay clear from plastering your name on people's houses?

Most importantly, who do you use to design/print your signs?

Thanks,
Mario

Who would read these, a prospective client or a prospective thief?

Uhmmm? I duntno.
I would imagine it would give current clients piece of mind. Lady specifically told me she doesn't feel safe without them, yea, I know...
Furthermore, if house gets sold, new owners might want to upgrade things, call for training (billable time), etc.
I would also imagine that friends visiting could maybe have a quick place to reference the installation company if they like what they see.

As for prospective thief, I don't know how they could benefit. Its not like I'm going to give him disarm code (or police for that matter), or even tell him what kind of security system we installed in that particular house.

Bottom line is this; I have to give her something, so question is do I go custom or generic?

Just copy what they did if your going custom. Company logo and warning message.

Or you can pick up generic signs at local security disty or online.

Ebay has them.. [Link: search.ebay.com]

My last post is what happens when you dont read the original post correctly :).

Anyways, client wants me to provide her with security stickers like the ones ADT uses.

You can actually buy ADT stickers & signs somewhere. My sister bought a whole package and put them around her house even though she has no security system.

She wants window and yard signs, so now the question is, do I go generic or do I put my name on it?

Put your name on it, free advertising.

I've used some generic signs but wanted to know what you think about having a sign made with your company info (Name, Tel #, website? ).

Company logo and website yes, telephone number might lead to phone ringing at 3AM as you already posted.

Sure its ok to put your sticker on the sign. Big security company here puts there stickers on everything including panasonic phones (over the logo).

Do you think this is a good advertisement, revenue generator, or do you stay clear from plastering your name on people's houses?

No one seems to care about ADT being on the sign on the lawn. I think its perfectly fine.

Most importantly, who do you use to design/print your signs?

Thats not my department so i dont have an answer :).

Statistics show -- without a doubt -- that the mere presence of a security warning sign thwarts break-ins.

In any case, you should have yard signs for all of your jobs, security or otherwise.

I know a lot of yard sign vendors if you need them, but there should be plenty of local guys for you.

I've seen generic signs at security wholesalers. That's what I'd do. At most, I'd put a sticker on the back of it saying "sign provided by _______" with my business name. ON THE BACK.

ADT actually has insurance in case things go wrong.

Put your name on the front if you want to accept liability when a thief can't read* and breaks in anyway, starts a fire, and burns down the house...while leaving obvious evidence that the "security system" did not help or malfunctioned. I don't know what your liability would be if signs were in place but there were no security system. Nobody could argue that the system malfunctioned!

*one reason to become a thief is that, while you're good with your hands, you can't read. Thank you, American School Systems and tenure based on time on the job, not ability.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.
