Anyone used this remote and RF base?
I've been offered them at significant reduction so really can't refuse, it looks a pretty remote, the software looks uninspiring.
Previous experience with Xantech multiroom not that encouraging but their IR products seem reliable.
Anyone have a review?

I recently programmed & used my 1st 2 XTR39. Pretty good. I rate it an 8.5 out of 10 for a remote> in its price range.

The 1st unit we did was for a master bed room set up & I/R only. System had: Large Samy LED, Denon surr sound, DirecTV HDdrvr, Samy BluRay, Toshiba DVD/VHS being used for the VCR only. Uses same Universal Dragon program I have used many times to program Xantech Slpcd's, I/W keypads, & URC remotes. Thus, I was very familiar with the programing method. Since the graphics are oriented more vertical & use 8 bit 256 color, none of my SPLCD files could be used. Therefore, had to create from scratch & took awhile to decide what layout should be. Future projects should be faster because of export - import feature allows you to export pages from 1 project to the other.

Notable items: Unit a little bit larger than desired. Hard buttons seemed like they had to be pushed hard to engage otherwise didn't always emit buttons' corresponding macro. 8bit 256 graphics not as sharp as other brand remotes. Learning codes into data base was easy. Touch screen buttons can not be custom but stock butts easily resizable - changable - reliable. Not able to make remote beep at end of long macro - cust was not sure when 10 sec macro to turn all on - delay - then switch sources was done. Occasionally, a Program clitch would not allow some buttons to be dropped into project - After multiple attempts at placing not allowed butts program would lock up- when program restarted it showed all the not allowed buttons stacked ontop of each other. Deleting these buttons & continuing was not a problem. HARD BUTTONS DON'T WORK UNLESS REMOTE IS AWAKE(screen on)! Remote sounds like something loose inside - this is not a defect - it is the shaker part that wakes up remote when shaked. LCD time out not settable from program like it is on other Xantech devices using "Dragon" - need to press & hold mute button to get at this & other settings. Touching screen wakes up remote easier than shaking. No go backs nor complaints from customer after he was shown how to use AND THAT REMOTE NEEDS TO BE AWAKE FOR HARD BUT OPERATION. The later was an initial complaint after in use for 1st 3 days> Cust thought Hard butts weren't working at all.

2nd XRT39 we set up was for an Onkyo stereo with 3 sources connected to 2 zones of speakers & RF unit so it could be operated with audio closet doors closed. Creating Project went well but took time. Initial operation when in I/R good. Setting up to work on RF was a hassel. Instructions included with RF unit could have been better. 3 calls to tech support & 2 visits to customer to nail down procedure. PLEASE NOTE : TURNING DIAL ON BOTTOM OF RF UNIT CHANGES THE RF CHANNEL. WHICH MUST MATCH THE SAME SETTING ACCESSIBLE THRU THE "HOLD MUTE BUTTON" PROCEDURE MENTIONED ABOVE. MATCHING THE NETWORK ID FOUND UNDER "GLOBAL IR PROPERTIES OF "DRAGON" IS NOT THE SAME. That was our prob, we thought the netwk ID had to match the dial but it wouldn't work. Netwk ID allows for 254 different RF units to work off same remote/channel. Netwk ID is not selectable on RF base unit - It is programed thru the computer by connecting remote to computer & being within 6' of RF base unit. Don't remember exact procedure. Not hard. When followed, XTR39 tells base unit which ID to use.
