I know everyone hates the questions but I need some expert advice. I have a home theater and I am looking for the best PDA remote to control it. I keep searching for one with the best CIR range. I have heard the rx3115 by HP is the best, but I really have no idea. I need descent range so please let me know any suggestions. Seems range is the main issue with the PDA's so I assume since Ipaq is designed specifically with a CIR the range would be the best. Please help with any suggestions or ideas.
Thanks,
Jason

The biggest thing you need to worry about is software at this point. Once you find teh software you want your PDA remote to run, you can look at all the compatible models. If the PDA doesnt have good biult in IR range, most have an accessory that can be bought (external IR) that will extend range up to 25ft+. I am using a Palm M515 with OmniRemote and it is pretty good but I am still looking for a better software solution and I may have to switch to a pocket PC model. I only know a few Remote software titles so if someone else knows more, please list them. The ones I have are:
OmniRemote Total Remote Niveous Pocket Remote (spelling?)
Also, if anyone has some reviews of the software and has a top pick, please let me/us know here.

The only remote control software I can recommend is NoviiRemote Deluxe. It's absolutely customizeable, including the button layouts. Go to the forum [Link: novii] and ask there what PDA to choose. The feedbacks on www.novii.tv are very impressive. Good luck!

what do you guys think about the total remote software? I have been thinking about this option just because i can design the layout and setup codes on my computer which is 10x easier than doing it on a PocketPC with a stylus.

If you are into designing it yourself on the PC, try NetRemote. ASAIK it's the only one that will let you control the full screen layout; no header area.

Recently I've been looking for the best handheld so that I can use it as a remote control. Probably, you'll find my experience useful. The best choice among Palm OS based devices is Tungsten E. It costs less than $200 and features a colour screen and a strong IR transmitter (7-15 meters) PPC/Windows Mobile devices are much more expensive and the IR port is weak. The only exception is HP iPAQ 6340 and rx3715. The range is 5-7 meters. And I don't know anything about Total Remote. I only heard that they have stopped development on the software.
