Need a little help...
I have a Chromecast dongle plugged into the Media Player HDMI4 port on my receiver.
I found the icon/tile in the brands drop down, but can't find Chromecast listed in the Database tab. I've looked through all the drop down menus, and it's not there.

I haven't tried the learning function yet, but clues appreciated...

TIA!

Chromecast doesn't have any controls.  It's meant to be controlled from the device you are casting to it.

I guess they came out with a new version recently though, so maybe that's what you have.

edit:  just looked it up.  the chromecast remote is controlling the chromecast via RF, not IR.  The IR blaster built in is to control your TV.   you won't be able to learn commands from it.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to create a another input to HDMI 4.

I'm also considering upgrading my AVR to one that has Chromecast bundled in the firmware. I assume it is the same process as having separate inputs to the AVR- 1 for audio, and 1 for the tuner? So this would be another option?

My dongle came with a remote, so I don't use any casting devices (only for initial setup).

Tried learning from the chromecast remote- no go. I was only able to get the VOL commands learned. Sent a request to URC for help...

Like Duct Tape said, the remote IR is just for controlling an IR TV.  The remote is Bluetooth so URC isnt going to be able to help much:

Its the same problem I am having with the Tivo Stream 4K.  Its an amazing device but a BT remote.  I did try a Flirc USB dongle via a USB A to C adapter on it but it only partial works (U/D/L/R).

You could try something similar on yours to see if you have any luck.

FYI, I was finally able to get my hands on a Chromecast 2020 with Andorid TV.

I can confirm that it works perfectly with an Flirc and my MX-980s.  I posted the details here:

I even have buttons like play/pause/ff/rw/skip+/skip- that are not on the original remote.

Thanks for the help. I have everything except Chromecast working. I'm going to upgrade my AVR and go from there.

BTW- does URC make any remotes that are BT? I didn't see any on the website, or they are specifically called out.

What kind of Chromecast do you have, exactly?  Are you saying it the older kind without Android TV/ Remote?

As far as I know, you won't be able to control the chromecast, because control is only done from the devices you broadcast to it. I know that there are special remote controls that can help with the controls. Maybe you should buy it. Personally, my chromecast works without problems. By the way, I recently found [Link: xtrium.com] that offers a lot of good features for TV. For me, the most useful feature was recording TV shows/movies. The fact is that I spend a lot of time at work and miss my favorite TV show. Now I can record TV shows and watch them when I'm free. I think you can find something extra for your TV.

But it's all done with a sense of humor, and there was a time when I was into this stuff more. My work has not focused primarily on home installations for a while now, so more often than not I'm either asking for help or trying... as well as I can... to add to the discussions.

Ernie, I hope not to tarnish your reputation.

That's a good question! The one I just bought, the $30 one, just says "Google Chromecast" on the carton. It might simply not be what I'm looking for: I want to be able to cast to my Yamaha RX-A880, not directly to the TV, using a remote, not one of our phones.

As for the exact model of this generically named product, I'm going to guess that the exact model number is this info from the side panel: SKU: GA00439-US.
What will it take to have Chromecast without controlling from a phone?

Thanks.

Yes, That Ernie!
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

Have you been able to get press-and-hold actions to work with the chromecast? That's my only hold-up at this point...
