Well, I'm afraid I'm going to need a little help. I've had my mx-850 for several years and have programmed it for many devices but I have to admit that I have not used the IR database before. I have read the editor manual several times for using this feature and I'm really not sure exactly how it works. So,...
Lets say that I want to get the discrete on and off codes for a Sony receiver.
I go to the ir data base, pick the device for which I want the codes to apply, and (as was suggested) go to Audio-> Sony-> Sony 40 (code 703) and hit save. The button editor comes up. I select the p-off key, hit apply, close the following window and repeat the whole procedure and do it for the p-on key ? Is this correct ? It seems that I cannot select more than one button at a time. I'm sure that I am doing something incorrectly, but not sure what.

Whine on:

Please excuse my "whining" here, but in this day and age, I have a hard time understanding why the mx-850 editor is so clunky and unintuitive. Everytime I need to use it I have to go back and scour the manual. Dont get me wrong, I love the remotes and have ordered a 950, but its just hard for me to believe that the company cannot make some more intuitive software.

Whine off
