Hi all,

I'm looking at repairing a RU950 (TS3000), which has
a broken screen - well touchscreen to be precise - its
the usual contact problem... Whilst I had it open I see
the EL panel is partly detached from the LCD glass, (probably
done by previous muppet who didn't know what he was doing...),
and I'm wondering about using LED's to light screen instead
of EL panel - how hard is it to do? and how good a light
dispersal do you get?
I think this is probably a question more for Ossocao -
since I think he has done this?

Thanks for any advice!
Joe

P.S. Anyone know anywhere to get replacement SMD push
button switches for the Pronto (Contrast button) - since
he also broke that :-)

I have the buttons you need, send me an e-mail.

Well the mod is very hard to do. Best whould be to sell yours 3000 and get a 3500 in e-bay. I made, I think, 5 mods and stopped. You will need a Led Panel from a broken screen (ipaqs). The leds on those are in serial you will have to mod to parallel. The major problem is space, the 3000 was not made to recive a 2mm panel under the screen. You will have to move the cristal to make room and use a dreamel on the hard buttons that goes under the LCD. You will also need a photovoltaic relay to make it work, 2 resistors and 4 diods. The relay will be activated by the old EL points and the energy to the LEds will come direct from the bateries. The result of this mode is an identical 3500 illumination. Thruth is that I made some because I an Engineer and like those kind of crazyness. :-)

It's not a problem if your EL panel got loose. The structure of the hard keys around the screen will keep it in place.
