There are many options which leverage an existing tabletPC.

Netremote is the first option, but requires an HTPC to be fully functional. http://www.netremote.org/ and it uses your CCFs!!!

There is an excellet server/client combo, very slick, using Binary Metal's Digital Theater Pro. [Link: binarymetal.com] Stan is updating regularly. Can use IR receivers & transmitters.

Viewsonic Smart Displays (vs Tablets) were built with remotes in mind. The 10" is cool and more multifunctional than the iPronto. The 15" is big, and a good bargain (relatively) less than $1K.
