i seem to be reading a lot of posts claiming that
the new firmware is causing the crashing issues.
can anyone verify this? if so, what firware
versions seem to work well?

I only started noticing the crash at version 1.8.2, but had only had my iPronto for a week or so before that version was released; so can't comment for sure whether the problem would have existed on my particular unit with earlier firmware versions.

also, does anyone know if there is a way to revert
back to older firware versions?

As far as I know you can't. That is something I wanted to try and do a few months ago; but couldn't find anyway to do it; as (I presume) the Philips server only hosts the latest version and gives no option to select which one you want to download.
