Right then... after re-uploading an icf and removing the battery and replacing and discharging and recharging from flat it now captures IR perfectly!

It would seem that being a late adopter for once proved to be worth it!
I had the option of a Crestron system instead of this iPronto and it might be because mine works perfectly but I think I made the right decision.
