Just to share my own personal experience for anyone considering the purchase of this remote: don't.

I have recently discovered that the warranty on these remotes is essentially worthless. In my case, the remote was just past its warranty of 1 year and "broke" after a nightly update of the EPG. The remote wasn't dropped or damaged, it started misbehaving after it locked up and had to be re-booted. I figured Philips would be generous and extend the warranty given the high price of the remote and its unimplemented features. I was wrong. Philips, as an absolute policy, does not extend any generosity on what they call a "depot" product, which applies to the iPronto.

So anyway, I had to pay in advance to have my unit repaired. It cost around $250. The deal was the job could be small or large and that this fixed price would cover whatever Philips had to do to repair or replace the unit. After over a month, they called to say they couldn't repair the unit. Here's the kicker: they can't replace it either. Philips claims they have no replacement units to send me.

So in my case, they're refunding my purchase price of the unit. They won't refund the "repair" fee; nor will they refund the tax I paid on the unit. So all things told, I'm out a pretty considerable amount of money and have no remote. My programming is probably worth more than the unit itself, so when you throw that in the mix, it's a complete disaster.

So anyway, consider yourselves warned: Philips has no replacement units and at least in my case, was unable to repair my remote. I suppose I'll be looking at the MX-3000 and starting to program from scratch.
