Thanks guys! It took a while to finish...
Yup, it's a remote with a hand crank. Charge lasts a week.
Re the Philips remote, that was a demonstration of the UPNP capability (in combination with one of Philips' Streamium devices)... allows you to browse media (photos, movies, music) from the remote and then have them display on a TV.
