Hereford United; perennial runners up. Even going back to the time we were originally voted into the Football League (no automatic promotion in those days) we didn’t actually win the Southern Premier League; we came second to Chelmsford City. Then on winning promotion to the Third Division (in our first season in the league) we didn’t actually win the Fourth; we came second to Southport.

As for the play-offs, I’m not sure there are such things as favourites/underdogs, or even if there are there’s still no accounting for the fickle finger of fate. I don’t need reminding of what happened two years ago.
