I have not seen assignable IR on TV's in a very long time on consumer sets. (If ever)
the Pairing on LG(And most other TV's) are for Bluetooth commands which is usually any kind of "Wand" control and Voice. IR Codes are still usually IR. Especially Power and Volume. Line of sight.
