At 40-50ft and being used just for ARC a good passive HDMI will work for 4K. Just finished something like this yesterday. If you need 8K then use other options.

Electrician called us for setting up Eero and Sonos. Electrician did all the wiring and cabling. We made suggestions before the project on what cables the electrician should use but he can't get those brands. Electrician ran seven 50ft Ruipro 8k active optical HDMI cables he bought on Amazon because they are cheaper. Only 3 worked with ARC all going into Sonos amps but some needed to be used for inputs as well.

Put our tester on them and only 1 passed 4k @ 18gbs, 1 other @14gbs, 4 others @1080P and one not at all. None even could do 8K even though that's what they advertised. Since they were in the wall, we tried them anyway. 3 cables worked but 3 of the power injectors that came with didn't. They don't come with a power supply, so they were all plugged into USB port of the One Connect box. When didn't work, tried different power supplies on them with no luck, definitely the power injectors. After spending 2 days T&M for the electrician he agreed to change out the cables but still didn't want to buy ours (Ethereal or Bullet Train we offered) and ran 50ft passive cables from Vanco and Avarro. Luckily, he did heed my advice previously and ran conduit.

They all now worked with ARC with the Sonos Amps. Tested the Avarro 50ft models and they did 4K @ 14gbs but surprisingly the Vanco 50ft passed 4K @ 18gbs. So, the TVs with multiple runs used the Avarro for ARC with no problems and the ones going to other inputs used the Vanco. Finally, our 3rd day all the HDMIs are working with the Sonos Amps, the Ruipros only had one working with ARC with them. They are all Frame TVs (different sizes) for reference.

If it wasn't T&M I would have not been happy having 2 guys for 3 days messing with HDMI issues, the whole project should have been 1 day. Hope this helps.
