Hey all. Client has a TV in a covered area outside. We want to add a pair of speakers and a Sonos Amp. I have Optical, headphone Jack and HDMI as options for returning the audio. The amp will go in his furnace room in the basement. The cable run is about 40ft. But let’s say 50-60 just in case.

Analogue audio to a balun I have done many times but being a headphone jack I’m concerned we’ll get a stupid icon on the screen or something indicating it’s a head phone connection.

I’ve never run an optical that far. Is that a thing? The Sonos Amp doesn’t have optical anyway I don’t think, so I’d still be converting to analogue anyway. May as well do it at the TV and then use a balun I guess.

I could use an HDMI over Cat6 solution… but that’s a pretty expensive way just to bring an audio signal back to the amp. Will a passive HDMI cable at that length do the job to get audio signal to the Amp?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks.

Craig
