Video Doorbell2(And original for that matter) can be hard line powered and it is highly recommended. At least the new ones have swappable batteries instead of having to bring the whole unit in to charge.

I would still use the Elites where you can. Significantly better unit and looks very professional. Its not like your looking at them side by side on a house/building.

I remember the original units (I think they were original, clients provided them and I installed a while back) having the option of battery or hardwire.  When I look at the specs on their site, it says specifically hardwire or battery power for each unit.  None of them say it will do both in the specs which is misleading if what you are saying is true.
