At the end of the day, even with an older database, all you have to do to control your equipment is learn those commands. That's why these remotes are able to learn in the first place.
Thats only partially true. Most remotes do not have discrete power and input commands. So an updated database is beneficial. Of course, a lot of equipment will use the same commands from older models.
