Same goes for insurance companies and 'sticking it to the man'. People just don't think or realize that insurance is just a business... loose a lot of money in court one year, well, we'll just raise everyone's premiums the next year.

Problem with insurance companies is that unlike other businesses where you get what you pay for...their SOP is to deny claims and push the burden back to the customer. If/When they do pay out they raise rates for all clients. It would be like you taking a clients deposit and then telling them "NOPE not getting DirecTV" until they take you to court where you will be (or not) forced to provide them with what they paid for.
The McDonalds case is a great example of companies, their insurance coverage and lawyers playing russian roulette with human life. A little old lady got burned because of a known faulty product and wanted her medical expenses covered. She was denied and had to sue. The real story about the so called 'frivolous coffee lawsuit'.
