For some reason all of the sudden I am unable to communicate with my PRONTO TSU2000. All COM ports are active as per the ERROR message but the final error says "RC device not connected or not responding. I have tried replacing batteries and resetting and noting makes a differance. This is really frustrating becasuse now I have no way to change the remote. Yes I could go manual but I need to change some graphincs. Can anyone please offer a suggestion(s)

Thanks.

I am using Windows XP with a serial DB9 cable and the remote is awake when I have tried it. I have doen this litterly hundreds of times. I am begining to usspect that the port is physically dead. It seems as though I saw a way to hook up the PRONTO via a USB connection but I am not sure where to get this cable. I hope locally at a computer store or something. Any suggestions?

TSU-3000 is NAtive USB..... Not 2000. You could try Tonto, but I would suspect something else... Do you have any other software on your machine that uses a serial port? Make sure its disabled... PDA's, Cameras, etc etc.... Other posibility is the Cable.... have you confirmed Pins 2,3,and 5 with a Multi-Meter?

The reson I was suggesting the USB solution was becasue of the FAQ article. B3-05 [Link: remotecentral.com]

I just got off the phone after two hours with Microsoft troubleshooting the COM port and got no where. Very frustrating. I not made any hardware changes to the computer since the problem arrised. The only thing I can think of is that that other day when I was cleanign behind the computer it rebooted because I jared the graphics board and it came loose. (No set screw, oops) ALl is OK but perhps it did something to the COM port. I have no way to test.

What would I confirm with pins 2,3,5? Open or closed and between what pins. This is getting a little deep for me and I do not have a ohm meter.

Does your remote still function at all? I had a simular problem when I tried updating the firmware. My remote would not work and just beeped everytime I did a reset. I had to use a different PC to fix it.

Here is the picture that you need to find out if your cable is in good condidtion. I know some people that does have a multi meter in my area that would let me use theirs just for something simple like this. Like a car stereo installation place, or a radio shack. They might just let you use to to find out if the cable is good or bad. Just make sure that you go in with this picture, or at least a note of what pin goes where on the cable. You can find this picture in the FAQs as well. Under B3-01
