I'm back already! I just did some more testing and here's the results.
On my setup I pressed the following buttons in the order listed.
Watch - Radio Press and Hold (PH) Listen - Radio PH Watch - Movie PH Listen - Sat TV PH (The button failed to register on this button press)
The next thing I tried was to turn the backlight on and go through the same sequence. I did a press and hold an every device alternating between the Watch and Listen pages for a total of somewhere between 40 and 50 Press and Hold button presses. I couldnt get it to fail even one time.
I then turned the backlight back OFF and went through the same alternating "Watch/Listen" and device Press and Hold sequence again. It failed again but this time it took somewhere between 10 and 20 Press and Hold sequences before it failed.
So... I did it one more time with the backlight on. It never failed. I also did it one more time with the backlight back OFF again. It failed again somewhere between 15 and 25 Press and Hold sequences.
So there you have it folks! So far it appears there is some correlation between the backlight being on or off and the buttons failing. This should give the engineers something more to go on.
Please post your testing results as well to see if you come up with similar patterns.

Great detective work, Mitch!
I'm moving today, and everything is packed away, but hopefully I can try your And Chuck's configurations on the weekend and see if I can duplicate your findings.

In the short time I've tried using the remote with the backlight on I have not had a problem. However, I can not easily reproduce the problem as Mitch so I'll keep testing and let you know if this changes.
If this is the problem, I wonder if it will be a hardware or firmware fix.

Mitch, Since you are able to reproduce it, can you try downgrading the remote (if the remote allows it) to the version before the last update (as I mentioned a few posts up)?
If it works with the older version, that will tell them that it was introduced with the last update and also that it something that should be able to be fixed with a firmware update and not a hardware update.

Surge,
I doubt that I can downgrade the remote. The best I would be able to do, and that's if I can get an older version of the software, is to downgrade the MX-Editor Software.
I'm getting ready to see call Eric and give him the results of my test. I will let everyone know what he has to say.

Surge,
After talking to Eric today I don't believe that the problem is with the software but most likely it's in the firmware. Let's give Eric and the engineers some time to take a look at my file and see if they can find the problem.
But please do your own testing and report back here so we all know if it's a consistent issue across the board and not just with my file.
Chuck,
I believe the fix will most likely be a firmware update and not a hardware issue. But time will tell. Stay tuned.

Are you asking to ignore your post or this whole thread? LOL just my post! I just returned from vacation and I had posted something before reading the new posts in the thread. I will try and see if I can duplicate your results with my MX-900. I have a similar problem where sometimes a button press fails but its not on the LCDs and its not on macros either. I had assumed it was my aim (I'm using IR) or not pressing the button hard enough. I must admit to not liking the buttons on the MX-900. The rocker is ridged and hard on the thumb, also the buttons are somewhat hard to press and mushy which means that the feel is not positive.

I agree on the button presses. Give me back the Gemstone buttons on the MX-900 format and I would be happy! I still love my MX-700 because of the positive tactical feel and feed back.
URC are you listening?

WPWoodJr,
My button press failures have occurred on other buttons besides the lcd buttons including the page buttons.
Mitch,
After testing for two days I have not had a problem when the backlight is on.
Ok, time to go buy a new set of batteries.

Ok, time to go buy a new set of batteries. Please call me Bill. How did you set the backlight up on the MX-900? Is it on all the time or only for 10 secs or so?

Bill,
For testing purposes, I just turn on the backlight by pressing the backlight button before pressing anything else.
I have it set to go off in 10 seconds.

For the record... I also have intermittent button press failures on other buttons besides the LCD screen buttons. Volume UP/DOWN, etc. I just happen to notice it more on the LCD buttons because it's easy to look and actually see the results of a failed button press. When an LCD button fails you can see the failure on the screen because it doesn't highlight the text when it fails.
I have my backlight set to turn off after 20 seconds of inactivity.
Chuck,
It's looking more and more like the problem goes away when the backlight is turned on. I think that's three of us now that have done the test with the backlight on and not had a problem.
