I am able to reproduce this problem by repeatedly pressing a button for 10-40 (or so) times. For my testing I used the "Info" and rocker switch "Up" buttons on my cable device.

I was NOT able to reproduce this problem with the Mute button which is a punch-through. This raises the possibility of working around the problem for non-LCD buttons by punching through from another, dummy device created for just this purpose.

Can anyone duplicate my results?

Update. I have tested the "punch-through" hypothesis and it dosn't hold up.

Further testing shows that on my MX-900 the "Info" button fails reliably within about 20 repeated presses. Alternating pressing the Left and Right rocker buttons also fails within about 20 presses. The Vol+/- buttons fail, but only very occasionally. I can't get Mute to fail.

Like others have found, nothing fails when the backlight is on.

Question: Is it necessary to turn the backlight on manually to get this benefit, or can the backlight be set to turn on automatically for 10 seconds and still avoid missed presses on even the first press which would turn on the backlight?

Bill,

There's no way to turn on the backlight without actually pushing the backlight button. That would be a nice feature to add in upcoming new models.

I suspect that just about anyone would be able to reproduce the same problem we are having. It will be interesting to find out what the actualy problem is and what causes it. Once URC fixes the problem I will see if I can find out what was causing it.

Give me back the Gemstone
buttons on the MX-900 format and I would be happy! I
still love my MX-700 because of the positive tactical
feel and feed back.

URC are you listening?

I'm totally with you on this one. The old gemstone buttons were the best. I can't figure out for the life of me why they changed them when they came out with the MX-850. My best guess is that the new buttons are less expensive and thus better for URC's bottom line.

Nothing yet. It's going to be a few weeks before the engineers get this figured out.

This bug drives me nuts. I hope they figure it out, and I hope URC makes the firmware update generally available if there is one.

It is quite annoying isn't it. I'm starting to get in the habit of turning on the backlight everytime I use the remote. Now that we know it's a bug it makes it that much more annoying doesn't it?

I use the remote too much with my DVR (skip ahead, skip back, etc) to turn on the backlight every time.

The latest firmware V1.43 on Live Update has a fix to the MX-900 reliability problem.

Is anyone still having issues with this, even after 1.43? I have been using my MX-900 for a few weeks now with my MRF-300 and am having the same problems.

No probs whatsoever.
