Your fine instructions worked just great. I had some trouble initially when I tried to save the advanced codes onto Learned keys. I just saved them to #1, #2 etc. and it worked like a charm.

Thank you very much for your prompt and concise support. People like you make the internet worthwhile.

Keep it up.

Great info you guys. I'm about to purchase the MX-500 and didn't know that I may need a One-for-all remote to obtain discreete codes.

And did you say "any" oneforall remote will work with discreet commands?

Also, I saw the MX-500 at costo. Are there different models/versions of this remote? Anything I should look out for if any?

Thanks again.

Price was at $99 about two weeks ago, just checked now and it seems it's gone up to $109. Still not bad.

RS 15-2104

Could someone please post instructions for inputing discrete codes into this remote. I would like to teach the mx-500 the newly learned discretes. Thank you in advance.

I did this successfully with URC 8781 but that remote did not work well for my Yamaha rxv-1300 so I returned the remote. I managed to later erased all learned commands on my mx-500 (a plug for IRCLONE!!) and now I need to start again with RS remote.

Thank you once again for your great instructions. Do you, or anyone else, know if it is possible to use Millenium Four (usually comes with Motorola DCT 2000 STB) can be used for discrete commands? I am asking this question, which may not be related, but I gathered that Millenium has JP1 connection potential. Does that mean it is similar to RS and URC devices?

A Dog,
Thanks also for the clear instructions regarding the set up of discrete codes using the URC 4640. Worked first time.
(Bought the 4640 at Wal*Mart this morning for $9.)

If it does accept advanced codes, you would use the same directions as the 2104, give it a try.

I too just purchased the 4640. Now, just waiting for my MX-500. But I need some help from the people in this forum. I noticed that on the back of the package for the 81XX model it listed the brand Timeless on one of their brands under Cable Converters. But the 4640 doesn't include that brand in the list. Can someone post the setup code for this brand?

I think I got the wrong remote :( I got the 4640 and it doesn't appear to control audio equipment. It only has 4 devices: VCR, DVD, TV, CBL/SAT.
I liked the price at $9, can someone recommend a cheap OFA that controls audio components in addition to those above?
I have an RCA Professional Series STAV-3990 Audio/Video Receiver, RCA VCR, RCA TV, Toshiba DVD, and an RCA Ultimate TV (Direct TV).

Thanks for any help,
Ken

Baronken - take your OFA remote back to WalMart and exchange for the next model up from it. I think it's about $11 or $12 and handles audio components. (I can't recall the model #, but you should be able to find it.)

If your RCA stereo receiver is using the Pioneer code like earlier RS RCA's did, then you're going to need a OFA/RS that accepts advanced codes for Pioneer. The remotes sold at WM don't, get the 15-2103 from radio shack, it costs $13.

Took it back and got the OFA 6011/6012 (can't remember what it is now sitting here at work, heh), 6-in-1 with Home Theater controls for $15.

The default code for Amp/Rcvr is for an RCA (code 1023). This one controls my amp seemingly fine. There were no specific advanced codes for 1023 at hifi-remote.com, but I tried the generic discrete power codes for a Pioneer (204, 208) and they worked.

My Toshiba DVD player has no discrete power codes (I read that no Toshiba does) so I will use the play-stop, play-power macros (play does turn on the DVD player even if no DVD is loaded).

Looks like I'm good to go now. My MX-500 is scheduled to be delivered today (yay!), so I get to set it all up tonight.

Thanks for the help,
Ken
