In the process of programming my new MX-500. I have all Sony components. The missing link is the discrete Power OFF code for my gear. From what I understand, Sony uses the same OFF code for all components, correct? If so, just wondering what the least expensive One4All remote I need to accomplish this. Thanks.

If there's an Advanced Code for it, any One For All remote should do. If you need to use JP1, than the URC-8811PKG is your best bet. Check http://www.hifi-remote.com for the Advanced Code.

Hi A-Dog. What was the OFA remote model number you got from Wal-Mart for $9? And what was the preceedure you used to enter the advanced codes?

I'm expecting my MX-500 to arrive today and I have a One For All URC-3605B00. Anyone know if this remote can use the advanced codes?

Thanks for any help.

I must be technologically challenged...I bought a OFA 4730 and tried to enter the discrete codes per Bluedo. No luck. Maybe this model does not accept advanced codes? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I have the URC 4640B00. Here is the procedure I used.

1. On the OFA remote, press the device button the code will be used for (i.e. - TV, VCR, DVD)[The OFA remote should already be programmed to control the basic functions of the device your working with]

2. On the MX-500 go into learing mode, then the device you want and then press the LCD or hard button you want to learn the command to and the MX-500 should say "READY" on the top of the screen. (Note - you now have about 20 seconds to complete steps 3-6. It seems like it's not enough time but once you memorize the steps, it's plenty of time.)

3. Press & hold the "Set" button (may be labeled Setup or Magic on other OFA remotes) until the red LED flashes twice.

4. Punch in 994 on the OFA and the LED should flash and stay on for a couple seconds.

5. Press the "Set" button again and the LED will flash once again (short flash).

6. Enter the 3 digit advanced/discrete code and as you press the last number of the advanced code aim the OFA at the MX-500 and if the MX-500 says "GOOD" then it should work.

7. Exit the leaning/setup mode on the MX-500 and test out the code on the button you programmed it to.

You can also skip step 2 and just do steps 1,3,4,5 & 6 on the OFA remote to see if the code works properly on your component before learning it to the MX-500. If it works, the repeat the process including step 2. Let me know if you have any questions.

You could also simplify this procedure on the OFA by replacing steps 3 to 6 by just pressing (without holding) the "Set/magic/setup" button once and typing in the 3-digit code number *while* learning to the MX-500. It will send the code immediately without requiring you assign it to a specific button.

First you need to find a working setup code in the 8781, then check www.hifi-remote.com, for advanced codes(some can be discrete). Once the 8781 is set, then you teach the mx-500 the codes from the 8781, head to head, key to key. To enter advanced codes into the 8781;

1. tap the device
2. hold SETUP until the screen reads TIMED SEQUENCE.
3. press arrow down twice, until screen reads CONFIGURE
4. press SELECT
5. scroll down until the screen reads KEYMOVER
6. press SELECT, screen will read FROM
7. press SETUP once and release
8. enter the 3-digit advanced code, screen will read TO
9. pick a unused key
