I want to get the MX500 and notice that they also come in the combo with the All for one remote and JP1 cable. Will I really need this? Does it serve any other purpose besides descrete codes? How important is it to have descretes programmed in the MX-500? Is it worth the extra cash to get the combo?

You only need the other remote if you want to teach the MX500 codes that are not on the original device remotes. There probably are. In all likelyhood they will be available as UEIC Advanced codes and JP1 won't be required. Check the hifi-remote site for advanced codes for your equipment.

In some cases, all the codes you want are only available on this site in Pronto .ccf files (which JP1 lets you utilize!). Commands like "POWER ON", "POWER OFF" (versus plain old "POWER" which acts like a toggle), "VIDEO 1", "VIDEO 2", "VIDEO 3" (versus plain old "VIDEO" which just cycles through all of them), etc. are called discrete codes and many are not available in the preprogrammed selections in the MX-500, or in the Advanced Codes available on OFA remotes. If that's the case, the JP1 solves the problem.

I'm not quite understanding the Advanced Codes page. How do you know what brand they are talking about and what do all those #'s mean?

The four digit number corresponds to the code for that device. For example, if your Sony VCR works with code 0033, then you'll want to click 0033 and jump to this page.

Then you'll see all the Advanced Codes that would work with any of the One For All remotes.

Hope that helps!

Newbie question, kind of...

I also have the same question as Jeff.

I have been using the Home Theater Master MX500 for about a year now and thought that I should get to programing some discrete codes, so I can get the remote to work the way I want it to.

I recently purchased a ONE FOR ALL (model URC8781) but I'm wondering how I get the advanced discrete codes from the ONE FOR ALL to the MX500.

Thanks

If you already have the advanced code on your ONE FOR ALL go into the learning mode of the MX500, press the button where you want to have the code and then press the button on the ONE FOR ALL where the code is stored.

First, check out http://www.hifi-remote.com and see if the codes you want are available in the advanced codes contained already in the remote. If they aren't, you'll want to get your hands on a JP1 Cable and then you can utilize all of the Pronto .ccf files on this website!

I have another question on the descretes. From th pics I have seen of the MX-500 ther is only 1 pwr button and 1 system off button right? So what button is the descrete on and what button is the descrete off. Say I need to turn off the DVD player but not the TV, I can't do system off or it will turn off the TV too right? So how do you all have your MX-500's programmed to do descrete codes?

The Power and System Off buttons can be used for each individual device, or as a macro for multiple devices, but not both. If you use then as macros, you can program discrete on and off commands to LCD buttons.

You can put the descrete power codes on almost any keys you want on the remote. Typically they are are put on the top left and right LCD keys on page 1 for each device.
What I did was use the System Off & Power buttons for system off and system on macros. I created a device called "POWER" where I have the descrete on & off codes for each of my devices on the LCD buttons. These are what I used in the macros. Then for each device, on page 1 I put the toggle on/off command on the top left LCD button. This way I have it all: system macros, a way to change the power state from a device's home page and descrete power codes which are 1 button press away. I also use these descrete codes on my device selection macros on the Main page.

Yes, but how do we get the advanced codes into the 8811 so it can be learned to the MX-500. I have not been able to find directions on that anywhere.

Advanced Codes are in the One For All remotes from the factory. Use http://www.hifi-remote.com to track down the ones you want/need.

Any codes not there for you can generally be downloaded into the remote using a JP1 cable.

I have not been able to find directions on that
anywhere.

To enter advanced codes;

1. tap device key
2. hold down SETUP until the red light blinks twice
3. press 9-9-4
4. tap the SETUP for one blink and release
5. enter 3 digit advanced code
6. tap the desired key, the red light should blink twice

Check under the 15-1994 manual at www.hifi-remote.com

Does the device already have to be assigned to a particular brand. For instance do I have to setup the TV device key to operate Mitshubishi TV before the discrete on or off code will work ?? Hope that makes more sense than I think it does ?
