Greg,

Didn't say I'd create a bogus letterhead - I don't have time for such a thing. However, anybody with a little graphics art knowledge could certainly come up with one as a workaround. If they asked for a tax ID also that would make it much tougher. Guess I'll stick with my MX-500 for now. I'd upgrade at $230, but no way at $495.

Bogus???

Notice their policy states, "they're requiring a business card or letterhead showing proof of being a dealer or installer." Well, if you are installing your own home theater, are you NOT an installer? And notice the word "OR" not "AND". Plus, at least in California where labor is NOT taxable, you don't even legally need a tax number to be an installer!

Yep! Fair is Fair! Since when is "price fixing" fair in a free market (and supposedly this is the case in America and, I believe, Canada)? Anytime I can save over 50% without doing anything illegal, I would be a complete idiot not to do so (I would also be happy to spend a few minutes on a computer to save nearly $270). And, if some folks think this is unethical, then I would have to say, "convince me that price fixing is ethical!" Otherwise, perhaps I can get you a crying rag and a one-way ticket to Russia where price fixing is sanctioned by the Government!

DJ: You keep the heck out of this. We all know your position on the matter, and IMHO, it is ridiculous.

So, unless you have something constructive to say, stay out of it!

I thought encouraging people to do something other than roam the net forums all day was pretty constructive :-)

Quite frankly, I'd rather they didn't, at least as far as warantees. Anything they might say would be meaningless unless it's also articulated in the actual warantee itself. An explanation and rationale of there sales policy would be interesting, but I wouldn't hold my breath :-).

I work for a company that uses resellers to deliver their products to customers. The ONLY way one reseller differentiates himself from all the others is by the value delivered to the customer. There can only be one cheapest seller. I believe that folks who want to sell the MX-700 at "list" to customers with no value add are kidding themselves about how the market works. There will always be people who trade part numbers for $ but true installers will provide value in programming, service, or whatever and charge accordingly.

Did anyon receive their MX-700 from Worthington? Is this a retail package? What comes with it? Does it include the cd and cable or just the two remotes? Just curious.

When I bought my MX-700 a few months ago, I didn't
know there were any restrictions on who I bought
it from; and to this date, I don't know for sure
that there are any today.

HTM, how about posting a sales and warranty policy,
whatever it is?

Warranty from the HTM help file MXeditormanual_V1.2lg.pdf (downloaded from their site last week):

Both the MX-700 and the SideKick are covered against any manufacturer's defects or workmanship for a period of one year from the date of purchase. This warranty does not cover the following items:

Batteries or damage to the remote from faulty batteries.

Damage from misuse, neglect, or acts of nature.

Products which have been modified or incorporated into other products.

Products purchased more than 12 months from the current date.

Units purchased in "AS IS" condition or units purchased as "Distressed Merchandise."

I got mine on Thursday, all I can say is WOW, what a sweet remote! Since I did not want to be refused when I ordered it from them, I just made a name up when they asked me for a name of the company, I said it nice and positively, they did not ask for anything of proof, so be confident when you state your "company" name :) Payed with Amex, just like a corporate member would.... Thanks for the deal!

I don't care what anyone says. The thing with everyone asking $499.99, is price fixing!
And as far as paying $200 to $300 more than what it can be had for, for "product support", is just a bunch of BS.
Just handing over a product for $499.99, is NOT support. No one is pre-programming them or anything. There is no warranty issues to be as far as gray market as I can see.
SO, the ones that sell with the best prices win with me.
