Happy New Year..... some Harmony One issues

I'm having an issue with my Harmony One not powering up my TV for an activity. In a nutshell, I'm doing the following:

Watch DirectTV
- power up TV
- power up AV receiver
- power up HR21 (this is set to always be on for recording purposes)
- set input on TV
- set input on AV receiver

Watch Bluray
- power up TV
- power up AV receiver
- turn on Nyko remote (used with PS3 dongle, I power the PS3 up manually)
- set input on TV
- set input on AV receiver

The DirectTV activity works great. The Bluray activity fails to power up my TV. If I'm currently watching TV and then select the Bluray activity, I don't have an issue as the TV is already powered up. It is from a cold start of the Bluray activity that the TV won't power up.

I have discrete ON/OFF power on my Panasonic plasma. I have it set to shut off when not used in an activity. I'm stumped, any help appreciated.

Are you sure it's not powering on? Or could it be powering on and just not switching inputs?

Couple of thoughts here:
Has this ever worked before ?
Does the Help button resolve the issue?
What are the inputs for the two activities? HDMI 1 ? HDMI 2? Component 1?
Is HDAVI enabled on the Panny TV?
Is there HDMI-CEC utility on the PS3?
If so take them off.
More details please.

I'm sure it isn't powering up the TV, the red power light doesn't come on.

I thought it had worked before, but I'm not sure. I typically always have the TV on prior to watching a movie, but yesterday I was modifying some programming on my Harmony and noticed it. I was changing some zone settings on my receiver for my Listening to CDs activity.

Both activities use HDMI 1 for the input. I have both my PS3 and HR21 connected to my receiver via HDMI and one HDMI out from the receiver to the TV.

Not sure what HDAVI is and AFAIK, there is no HDMI-CEC utility on the PS3. It doesn't matter if I power the PS3 on before OR after executing the activity (I'm powering the PS3 up manually).

Thanks
Mark

Just curious... what model Panasonic? I have a Panasonic and an HD-DVD player but don't have any problems doing a cold start to HD-DVD. Also - try recreating the Watch Blu-Ray activity. Maybe tweak your delay settings between commands as well.

HDAVI is the Panny version of HDMI-CEC. Look in the TV Menu, Set Up, Other Settings, Control with HDMI: set it off.
It will send CEC commands between CEC-enabled devices to talk to each other.
It could turn your TV off/on when a device is turned on/off via the HDMI connection.

Does the Help Button resolve the issue? Please answer this question.

The TV is a 50PZ77U.

I was just doing some more experimenting...

From a cold start, I can execute my "Play DVD" activity, which is just like the Bluray activity, only I power up my Toshiba DVD player. This works OK.

I'll try and recreate the Bluray activity.

Yes, the Help button resolves the issue. Until the next time. The Help button will power on the TV, but the next time I execute the activity, the same thing happens.

Try with the TV HDMI cable disconnected to eliminate the "HDAVI/HDMI Control" possibility. If it's not the "HDAVI/HDMI Control", then try increasing the TV Inter-Device and Inter-Key delays (Device > Settings > Adjust Delays). Set them both to the same value in case the "criss-crossed" and/or "added together" delay bug(s) is/are still present.

I have a similar issue with my Panasonic TH-50PZ85U. The Watch TV command only turns the TV on every other time. If it is the time that it didn't turn on, and I again select Watch TV, it still doesn't turn on. But if I turn everything off and then select Watch TV, the TV does turn on. Turn it all off and this time the TV does not come on upon selecting Watch TV. In other words, it is exactly every other time.

The Help button corrects the issue by turning the TV on at that moment, but it doesn't correct the issue long term. The issue remains.

I've gone through the Troubleshoot functions in the PC software, tried changing the delay times, etc.

I followed Sucubus' instructions on how to find HDAVI on my TV, but the path mentioned doesn't exist, and I can't find any mention of HDAVI.

EvilJack,
check the manual for EZ-Sync, Viera Link. They have renamed this so many times it gets stupid.
You have given me a clue as to what is happening here. It seems that you are not sending discrete On/Off commands to your TV.
Try testing the Discrete On/Off Commands in Device mode and see if they are actually On and Off and not just Power Toggle.
From what you both are saying, it seems that the Harmony is sending the Power Toggle command and not the On command.
If this is the case then there may be a solution by changing the way the TV powers on in the Harmony set up OR get Harmony support to put in the discrete commands for you, in your profile.
I ,myself, prefer the discrete commands.

Also try setting the interdevice delay for the TV to a really high value like 5000 ms - just to remove that potential problem from the troubleshooting process.

Almost every Panasonic has discrete power commands. Most (if not all) European Panasonic TVs require you to send the power command for about 2 seconds. This also applies to some NAM TVs. See if the discrete power commands work in device mode; if a simple press won't turn on your TV, see what happens if you hold the button for about 2 seconds. If this works then contact Harmony and have them add a 2 second hold for the power commands. Increasing inter device delay also wouldn't hurt for troubleshooting but normally Panasonic TVs are good with 500 or 1000.

With Panasonics the first thing to look for IS the duration of the power commands. For some models you can set that yourself in the software, for others Logitech support will do it for you.
