The image shows an activity that uses an XBOX 360. Under that activity, using the A, B, X, Y commands automatically adds the icon - it's not a user controlled setting.

The same is true for an activity that uses the SA8300 cable box: add the A, B, or C commands, and the software automatically adds the circle, square and triangle icons in the appropriate colors.

Also true for any activity using a TiVo: add a Thumbs-Up or Thumbs-Down command, and the software adds the appropriate thumb icon.

It would be great if Logitech let users choose icons for specific commands, but as currently written, that's not the case.

It is not on their web site yet. You have to actually
go to the store.

Logitech is only selling the One to Authorized dealers at this point so availability is somewhat limited online.

We have tons in stock...

We also have a coupon available for remotecentral members. Enter coupon code H1 when checking out for special price.

My Harmony One just arrived - I weas surprised to see on the side of the box a picture of four coloured lozenge buttons, side by side - red, green, yellow, and blue, with "Digital TV and Teletext navigation buttons" printed underneath.

Strange considering the One doesn't have those buttons... Could this be a sign that they intended to provide them when the packaging was designed & printed, but changed their minds later?

There's no such image on the units we have...

It's possible they changed the boxes when they went into full production. Does your box have the Harmony One displayed in a plastic "window" on the right side of the box?

Yes, it's got the plastic presentation window - very 'clever' box design, but not terribly practical.

The box is a European version with descriptions in 6 languages. It has a white sticker on it with a barcode and 'Harmony One UK' followed by what looks like a serial or model number.

I think I'll give Logica an ear-bashing about the misleading box description, and see what they say (they'll probably say that as the remote is visible in the presentation window, the box description is irrelevant).

My Harmony One box doesn't have any reference to color/teletext buttons either, so I'm happy you'll give Logitech an ear-full! Can you scan in the box to show us what the packaging/remote with the "lozenge keys" looks like?

It would be great if they did come out with hard color keys, and even greater if they were sold in the United States as well as in Europe!

Please post a picure of this box. It sounds like what many people really want with the One.

OK, I can't scan it, but I can take a photo... I'll see what I can do when I get back.

Having set up a couple of activities and devices on the One, having the colour buttons on the screen isn't too bad, as the page scrolling is pretty easy to use. But still not as good as having real buttons...

Got my ONE yesterday. The box had said buttons pictured on the side, (UK), but no buttons of course. The coloured buttons are automatically placed on the screen and I can't really see the difference between pressing a hard or a soft button. This is no big deal for me.
Having said that, the One is a vast improvement over the 885, (880). My 885 always worked well, no charging issues etc., but it is an ergonomic disaster area. The number of times I pressed a number and hit two or three buttons was beyond belief.
No such problems with the One, it fits well into the hand, the buttons are well spaced and seem likely to have a long life. In other words it is what a remote should be like. The other big bonus is I can point the ONE in the wrong direction and the signals are still received OK. A vast improvement over the 885. I am sure few people will be disappointed with the ONE.
Only problem, there is a big time lag between the TV coming on and the signal being sent to the amp. I have been delving into the software trying to find a remedy for this but it's like looking for the proverbial needle in a haystack. Is this inter-device delay? Help.

While I'm sure we all appreciate your review, and we're
glad you like the One, nearly everything you mention about
it applies to most Harmony remotes (and they're all less
expensive than the One) . That's the beauty of the Harmony.

That may. I've never used a Harmony remote, and can't compare the One's operation to other models.

But I'll note then two things to distinguish the One: :)
* The hard-button layout is about as good as it gets. It is extremely well designed. I was going to get the previous model (850?), which looks like it was designed by an engineer -- maximum button count per square inch. The One makes the right sacrifces and emerges with an elegant and obvious button system. This is the iPod of remotes. It seems so simple and obvious, that you wonder why no one's do it before. Every button I need is in a sensible place. Seconary buttons can usually be given a place (e.g. DVD Multi-Angle) and tertiary functions (e.g. TV Close-Captioning) are easily put on the LCD.

My previous remote, the Radio Shack 15-1994 -- a superb remote with excellent hardware and tremendous value -- I am forced to admit has an inferior button layout to the One. I only wish the One had the same soft rubber of the 15-1994.

* The LCD is bright, attractive, and responsive with its touch-screen: no offset hard buttons on the side.

Er, so how do I attach an image to a post?

BTW, after using the One for a while, I've come across two major problems with it:

1. Coloured buttons on touchscreen - for me, a major use for this is the Favorites iteration on the Sky satellite box - the blue button cycles through the 'favorite' channels. When this is on a touchscreen button, it's far too easy to press the wrong segment or switch pages when skipping through the channels - because you look at the TV/projector to see which channel is currently selected rather than at the remote. I've had to put this onto a spare hard button to avoid wandering off into the remote menus and completely messing up my viewing options.

2. Dropping the 'Picture' and 'Sound' mode selection buttons - the main advantage of these was that they temporarily switched the device mode to the relevant display or audio device. This effectively gave a tailored subset of the relevant device commands within that device context - so, for example, when I selected 'Sound', I could select and adjust the bass offset by pressing softkey 'Bass' and up/down hardkeys because they acted in the audio device context (OK, maybe the audio device should use the volume key for this, but it doesn't). There's just no easy way to do this kind of thing with the touch screen - and switching to the audio device and scrolling to the appropriate settings, making an adjustment, then switching back to the activity is way less convenient.

For me this is a major disadvantage, despite the Harmony One being better in all other respects than my previous Harmony remote :-(

I posted in a previous post above about a way Logitech could fix the "Sound" & "Picture" hard buttons found on previous remotes.

Can someone confirm that yours is the same?

I am trying to find the post you are referring to, and somehow can't come up with it. Is it in this thread? Do you have a link to it? Thanks!
