Logitech replaced my 880 and remote last fall. The new one has the magnet but it's still a little quirky (have to rattle it in the cradle sometime) but nothing I can't easily live with. It was out of warranty and they came through like a champ so I love those guys and my 880.

I got my 880 shortly after it came out and regularly had charging issues. I finally found a simple fix to the problem. I had some rubber black adhesive spacers that were designed to be applied to the bottom of some of my speakers (similar to rubber stops for cabinet doors, which could probably also be used). I placed them on the bottom rear part of the remote base, which created a slight slope down to the charging contacts. This allowed the weight of the remote to make better contact every time. It also looks just fine on the base, it added only 1/8 to 1/4 of an inch to the rear of the base. Note there are already some rubber pads on the base and I placed mine just in front of those.

No the easiest way is to contact Harmony Support, they have been very good replacing defective charging bases even if they are out of warranty

just got an 880 and was searching to see what's the best way to handle recharging- i did see one post in this thread to let it go to one bar then put on the charging station- is that what you guys find best? or should you charge every nite (or is that bad for the battery??) also - is it bad to leave it there day to day?

I have 2 880 remotes and I put them in the charger when I am done using them for the day. There is no memory issue with these batteries. This way you always have a full charge the next time you use them.

I can't say that I've had a problem yet, but, every now & again I do have to jiggle the remote in the charger. If it persists to the point of not charging, I'll probably Dremel out the channel where the remote sits so the contacts are making positive contact. If this was a low $$ remote, I'd replace it and with the economy the way it is, replacing a $100 remote with a $200 just doesn't make much sense, considering there is nothing wrong with the remote itself, just the charger.

If it ain't broke, I can fix it

Harmony has been very good about replacing defective charging bases even if out of warranty

My Harmony 880 is 3+ years old:

a) Original batteries still!!

b) I've gone thru 2 replacement cradles, none ever worked for good charging. Somewhere here or another forum there was a mod to take apart the charger and tweak the springs that poke up. I did that, seemed to work for a few months, but now charging is not consistent.

Don't laugh, I just have a big/heavy weight and put that on the 880 while it's in the cradle, now it charges w/o issue. Talk about a red-neck solution.

btw, I also have a 890 and 0 problems with it charging, they only have 2 contacts not 3, not sure if the plastic injection molded cradle is same or a newer mold/tool for the 890 with some additional clearances so better fit.

how long does it usually take to get a full charge? my 880 was down to one bar and i put it in and in an hour it was full - pretty quick!

I also have to sometimes place a weighted object on top of the 880 for it to charge. I just do not have the patience to get it right on the cradle. I usually use a cordless phone.

My 880 had a charging issue after about a yearI called Harmony and they replaced it with out a fuss. The new one has been going for over a year without a hitch. They changed the charger design on my new one. I must admit that the new design does look like it will last much longer

I found that my problem actually wasn't the cradle (I think). One of the connection ports on the remote itself was wearing out and i wondered if it was making a good connection. So, I tore off 2 corners of aluminum foil about the size of a pencil eraser and covered gently the ports on the cradle, then, i set the remote on top of them in it's cradle position and it instantly "connected" and juiced up just fine. We were down to one bar of charging before that and I knew I had to figure out something. We have a new cradle on order though. Good solution in the meantime though.
