Well darn, if I knew how many posts I actually had in this thread, I would have done a few more to make the newbie list :)

btw, how do you read the rank change column? there's 3 numbers and I have no clue what they mean

It's the difference in position between the previous listing and the present. For example . . .

6 star50fiveoh has not moved = 0
7 Damik was 9, is now 7 = +2
8 Gregorius M was 7, is now 8 = -1

The arrows obviously point the direction of travel. You, however, being new don't have this, but you will next time.

Must be something other than Firefox or IE which obviously doesn't support the webdings font.

As Anthony says, for 3 you should see <, for 4 . . . >, for 5 . . . ^ and for 6 . . . V.

Would you be kind enough to take a screen dump and e-mail it to me; check my profile for the address. Thanks

I'll send you a screen cap later, not at home right now, but I use Opera.

Yeah, my copy of Opera does the same thing - doing some reading, it seems to be a problem with Opera.

Instead of using Webdings, you could use Unicode. You don't need to specify a font name, just put the code where you want the symbol. So put #9650; for UP, #9660; for DOWN, #9654; for RIGHT and #9664; for LEFT. To make those work add an ampersand before the # and don't forget the semicolon at the end.

The four symbols below show up fine in Opera and Firefox, all close to the same size as they should be, but come up quite different sizes in IE7... which seems to be an IE7 thing.

Curious thing, the Internet. I thought I'd hit upon a solution with "Haettenschweiler", but having initially found it to work okay, it's now not rendering the left and right arrows correctly. I also noticed that Opera (not used it before today) also has it's own little way in rendering the table borders; and stranger still, 9.5beta does is differently to 9.27. Glad I'm not a web page designer.

Daniel,

Many thanks, I'll give them a try, but a little later on. Presently there are some lawns (patches of grass actually) and hedges that are in desperate need of attention.

Let me tell you, it was a REAL pain to get this site looking mostly consistant between IE7, Firefox, Opera and PSP/PS3. Seemed as soon as it looked perfect in 3 browsers, the 4th would do something completely different.

What irony, it would appear that out of the three, Opera is the only browser to render all the Unicode "geometric shapes" correctly. Firefox is okay, but in some instances doesn’t get the dimensions of the character right and IE, well what a disaster. Out of the 96 shapes it (or at least my BT "badged" version of it) only recognises 15, and then, like Firefox, it doesn’t render some of the dimensions correctly.

Suffice it say that having tried #9664; and #9654; (black left and right pointing triangles – which my version of IE doesn’t recognise and Firefox incorrectly renders with slightly reduced dimensions to that of the black up and down black pointing triangles) and #9668; and #9658; (black left and right pointing pointers – which IE does recognise, but along with Firefox incorrectly renders them with the same dimensions as the black up and down pointing triangles - and though Opera does render them correctly, requires too large a font size to do so) I’ve decided to give up on left and right triangles and use simple dashes instead. All for a browser that apparently doesn’t support webdings and has only 0.7% share of the market.

Daniel, it's at times like this I realise how little I know and just how good you are. Trying to create a site like this would have driven me to the looney bin.

maybe just going with standard characters might be easier <>^v not as nice. But there should be less issues.

-----------------------
an other idea would be <>ΛV Λ=&Lambda

------------------------
or maybe ← → ↑ ↓ might work better, the other issue with using special fonts is that it could happen that the font is not installed on the other PC

for the arrows it is &{char}arr;
where {char} is
u=up
d=down
l=left
r=right

-------------
note 1) don't forget the ; at the end of &Lambda
note 2) it is case sensitive so &lamda<>&Lambda
