Anyone have discrete codes for the Panasonic DMR-EZ47V combo VCR/DVD Recorder? I have a code for Power On (Pronto NG Hex Format):

0000 0071 005E 0002 0080 0040 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 0A58 0080 0040 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 000F 0011 0030 0011 0030 0011 0015

but would like codes for Power Off as well as Select DVD, Select VCR, Select SD Card, and Select TV, if they exist.

Thanks,

-- Dave

I have a code for Power On

Is that really Power On, not power toggle?

It is a distortion of the standard power toggle signal (device 144.0, function 61).

Here are clean copies of functions 61, 62, and 63. On some related models, 61 is power toggle, 62 is power on and 63 is power off.

What do these do on your model?

On some related devices, functions 203 through 206 are discrete input selects. You could also test the full set of 256 functions if you like, using MakeHex with Panasonic.irp with Device=144.0

John:

Thanks! Yes, it really was Power On. The code came from a built-in on the pronto TSU 3000 (Device: DVD(R) Manufacturer: Panasonic; code: 704; Function: Power On). I taught the code to another remote, then read it back in via my pronto, so it could have gotten a bit garbled in the translation

The codes for power on and power off you sent worked perfectly. Interestingly, the code for power toggle had no obvious effect. Here's the code I learned from the original Panasonic remote for power toggle:

0000 006F 0000 0032 0081 0041 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0031 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0010 0031 0010 0AC7

The device function codes you sent had no effect either. I'll try MakeHEx and see if any other codes do interesting things.

Thanks for helping,

-- Dave

Your original power toggle (post 3) is device 176.0, function 61.

176 is generally for DVD and 144 for VCR, so it makes sense your device has some response to both.

But I don't understand the response to device 144, function 61. You say the garbled copy of that is a discrete Power On and the clean copy I posted is no operation.

As for discrete input select, maybe they are in device 176.0. I don't have much info on how the device numbers are used in combo devices.

John:

I was wrong. I tried it again and Dev 144 Code 61 also acts as a discrete power on. I didn't try the code when the unit was off before, so it looked like it wasn't doing anything..

If I understood all that correctly:

144 61 = On
144 62 = On
144 63 = Off
176 61 = Toggle

Correct?

Does anyone know if discreets exist for the 'drive select' functions (vcr/dvd/sd)?

No, when I test it I get:

144 61 = Toggle
144 62 = On
144 63 = Off

176 61 = Toggle
176 62 = No response
176 63 = No response

Function codes 203 to 206 for either device 144 or 176 do nothing.

John if you can point me to the docs you were relying on I can try some more on a real unit.
I'd really like to get discretes for the drive select functions for this unit working as we have several dealers using our products that would like to get a proper interface to the EZ47V. Our Code Manager software can import Pronto Hex btw.

If I can do any good I'll post the results (and the Pronto Hex) on this thread.

John if you can point me to the docs you were relying
on I can try some more on a real unit.

I don't recall using any docs.

Most of the information I have comes from the results people have posted in threads like this one and in CCF files.

Did you understand how to use MakeHex to generate full sets of these signals for testing?

OK, I've never used a Pronto so I don't know what CCF files are. We have our own proprietary format....

I do now, I've downloaded it, created .irps for Panasonic2 device code 144 and 176, made hex files and imported them into our own software so I can look at them. I will try them later today (tedious process!) and report back here.

But where do I get the information that 144 is VCR and 176 is DVD (my assumptions)?
Is there a doc somewhere for this, as there is for SIRCS, RC5, RECS80, NEC etc? Some manufacturers publish this info, does Panasonic? I do have some of these and some confidential protocol stuff as well if you email me....

Interim report:

Panasonic2.irp is incorrect, should be panasonic.irp, at least for 144 code. With 144 I seem to get all VCR transport functions as well as discrete on-off, but that's all.

Will try 176 if I get time tomorrow. I've written a program to automate the testing so it can run while I'm doing other things.

AHA! I have a solution!!

After trying all 144 and 176 codes (512 in all), I have found the following:

Code 144 Fn 62 will switch unit ON in VCR mode
Code 176 Fn 62 will switch unit ON in DVD mode

BUT only after a switch off! To change over between VCR and DVD, you have to wait 7 seconds for shut-down, then switch it on again using the 144 on code for VCR or the 176 ON code for DVD. Of course, if you can be certain the unit's already off, no worry.

Either code 144 Fn 63 OR 176 Fn 63 will switch it off. It makes no difference which one you use.

A PLAY command (10) from either 144 or 176 codeset will wake the unit up if it's off, BUT always into the mode it was in when it was switched off if there's no media loaded. However, if for example a tape is inserted but no disk, VHS will always be selected regardless of the 144 or 176 code. Go figure!

Hope this helps.
