Funny...

Today I had a client call with a DVD video problem... only pinks and greens. Knowing immediately that the Pb cable was bad or unplugged I went to check it out.

Cable was plugged in and as I wiggled it it came back and faded out. Once again the wonderful (sic.) solder job on a Monster Cable was bad. Have any of you ever looked at the solder joints on a Monster S-vid or regular vid. Do yourself a favor and compare it to the soldering on a Tributaries cable... there is absolutely no comparison here... the Tribs BLOWS IT AWAY. I will be running this client a new pair of tribs and using the Monster tradeins as a sell against.

I would also love to tell everyone why Monster is so distributed... its called contests and spiffs. The big box stores have contests all of the time... with some very nice prizes... read some other threads to this effect here. I doubt I will ever sell another piece of Monster product. I may even refuse to do box store installs that include it unless my family is in danger of not eating (which luckily for me seems unlikely now). Knowing this...clients reading here... insist on a better cable and don't allow a salesperson to heap it on you with the hype... he's only dreaming of a trip to Cabo.

I never cared much for that company anyway. Then again, who cares what I think?

No, it's not! It's what I've been trying to tell everyone...the more that's spent on Marketing, the less is spent on actual reasearch and QC!

RHM, you must be mistaken here, the don't USE solder, it's bubble gum. Have any of you ever TASTED Monster solder? Licorice!

You mean that s--t is edible? Guess I've never been hungry enough to try it.

I really hope this has a negative impact on Monster. I'm sure Julie will be able to present facts without getting in trouble. Then we all must remember that we and our clients have a choice!

You guys rock for your info on Monster cables. I saved my neighbor a ton of $$$ on cables. He bought his Wega LCD from BB or CC, and they tried to pile on the Monsters. I had him take them back, and then got him some more reasonable stuff. I have read your reviews of them for a while here, and it has stopped me from buying them.

Thanks,
Mark

I want to thank all of you for contributing to this thread.

I will print it out and present it to any client who mentions M-Star (as we should probably refer to them from now on) Cable to me.

It's a pity Noel Lee didn't run a series of ads last year, before all of this, touting the "Monster Lifestlye." That would keep the two idiots banging at each other while the rest of us just quietly went about our business of actually supplying good audio and video, not primarily sucking on client wallets.
A good answer is easier with a clear question giving the make and model of everything.

it's not so much contests and spiffs as it is BB and the like selling inferior Monster products for 300% markup...

See my post on integrationpros.com for details... some asshole went ballistic when I posted pricing info (wholesale vs retail, for both a custom installer, and for Best Buy), so I won't repost it here

I'd just like to point out that I've had a breakdown rate on Monster cables that was roughly 10 times that of the cheapy out of the box cables that I've used.

Oh speaking of BB, did anyone else here get a mail invitation to some conference about selling accessories?

Among the four keynote speakers were reps from BB and Monster.

Imagine that!

I have realized for over twenty years that the Monster Cable people were a bunch of scam artists.

Their reliability is poor. Their prices are high. The value is terrible. Their ethics are non-existent.

Anyone who sells this crap is doing their client, and the industry, a dis-service. Additionally, dealers who promote it are feeding the big "Greed Monster". There is a name you can have, Noel--"Greed Monster"!

The two brands that taint the reputation of this industry are Monster and Bose. I believe that the mantra of both of these companies is to never underestimate the stupidity of the consumer.

I am disgusted with both of these companies and I will never do business with either of them.

You left out a speaker manufacturer who's name starts with a "K"

I too would like to see the above referenced info from IP. I have seen references to large margins on Monter crap (not that they are the only company with huge margins, especially cable companies) Anyway, if the info cannot be posted, please forward via e-mail.

Ahl,
I seen what you're talking about. Eric was replying because you were posting the dealer cost in the public area. There's a section at the bottom for members to discuss things when the public doesn't need to see. If you can't see that section you might not have been set-up yet - contact avdude and he'll get you squared away.

(P.S.) Death to Monster cable.
