I just checked specs and settings. I made 1 change...graphics memory. From 256mb to 1024mb. This could be one of my problems. "sluggish drawing" is the most noticeable issue. Things take for ever to appear when flipping pages and between applications. Tonight i will do some work that would normally be super slow and see if anything has changed.

Model Name:MacBook Pro Retina 15" Early 2013
Model Identifier:MacBookPro10,1
Processor Name:Intel Core i7
Processor Speed:2.8 GHz
Storage: 750GB SSD
Number of Processors:1
Total Number of Cores:4
L2 Cache (per Core):256 KB
L3 Cache:8 MB
Memory:16 GB

Then i checked the VMWare settings.

Ram (16GB) was split 50-50 so 8GB for Windows and 8GB for Mac.

Graphics memory was set at 256mb. I changed it to 1024mb (recommended out of 2048mb).

Processor was set to 4 (out of 8).

I don't understand how the specs say 4 core and VMWare shows 8.

OT: might not be related - My baby sister updated her iMac OSX to Yosemite OSX last weekend, the machine ran almost as a brick after was updated.

Find and delete Cache and Cookies folders will help to speed up your MAC.

I am running Yosemite but my issues existed before the update. I updated in an attempt to fix it but nothing changed at all except now i have these flat ugly UI graphics instead of the glossy interface that they used to have.

Cache and Cookies for what? I only ever use firefox under windows. I clear everything out constantly because i work on websites and sometimes changes wont "show" on my end until i delete everything. I just want to make sure i am not missing something on MAC OS that i don't know about.

Not familiar with that saying...are you saying it was better or worse after the update?

You have one fantastic machine there. So the machine can handle what you throw at it. So hopefully changing that setting will help out.

The Intel i# have 4 physical cores, but shows 8 cores. 4 for the physical and 4 for the virtual cores.

Heres something for you to consider. Make a bootcamp for the Windows OS. Then you'll be able to point the VMware to that. Basically you'll be allow to run Windows 100% (via bootcamp). Which means the Mac OS won't be running. Or you could running it on the VMware, so the Mac OS will be running too.

After clearing out caches and cookies, her machine was mysteriously back to life. I know those are only related to web browser.

Whoever said Windows 7 will run slow under bootcamp is very much mistaken. It will run slow under VMWare, but bootcamp runs windows as the only OS, so it's super duper fast. My windows 7 starts up just as fast on my bootcamp air as my brother's Yoga 2 with better specs.

Unless you have a need to run OSX and Windows at the same time, you should really try bootcamp. I have no need to run them both at the same time so it works well for me. Especially with only a 13" screen.

That model i7 has four physical cores, and supports hyperthreading. Each physical core is capable of two threads. Therefore the OS sees and reports the processor as eight cores, as it thinks of a core as capable of one thread.

I'm wanting to get a new laptop to replace my old W5xx (Can't remember) lenovo. I'm ready to just get a Current maxed out MBP....need to read up on how to run windows and what it will cost to have added.

two things are holding me up:
1. I think there will be an update next year with all new processors and I'm guessing more competitive pricing on the SSD upgrades.

2. It's an extra $500 to go from a 512 ssd to a 1tb ssd.  but I can get a Samsung Pro 512GB for $250...is there a way to run dual SSD or is not worth the hastle.

I have these notes saved on my Macbook for some routine maintenance. May be of help to some of you.

1. Applications - Font Book - Select All - Resolve Duplicates

2. Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility - Verify and Repair Permissions

3. Reset firmware by holding down CMD-OPT-P-R during boot up. Hold until second boot sound then release.

5. Start in verbose mode via CMD-V and make note of errors

6. Run Unix maintenance scripts in Terminal. Type:
sudo periodic daily weekly monthly

HP has the OMEN again. I remember when they bought it, killed it and now they have it back as an available model. [Link: store.hp.com]

Similar specs to the razerblade i linked to and the MBP. Its about $700 less though. The razer is the only 17" notebook.

i am honestly puzzled by you MB guys. Buy a 3k laptop then run windows 90% of the time....

A windows machine that is well taken care of will run just as good as a mac. As long as your smart with your downloads and have good virus/malware protection there is no advantage by going with a mac.

Save 1500 bucks and stick that into a nice 2 channel system or your 401k. Order a nice lenovo t series laptop

Or is everyone just that googly eyed over a pretty glowing apple on the backside of their screen to show off at your local starbucks?
