I have these notes saved on my Macbook for some routine maintenance. May be of help to some of you.
1. Applications - Font Book - Select All - Resolve Duplicates
2. Applications - Utilities - Disk Utility - Verify and Repair Permissions
3. Reset firmware by holding down CMD-OPT-P-R during boot up. Hold until second boot sound then release.
5. Start in verbose mode via CMD-V and make note of errors
6. Run Unix maintenance scripts in Terminal. Type: sudo periodic daily weekly monthly
