I'm headed out next week to install a dual 16 swm system because the client is out of room for more tuners.
I'm also installing seven more TV's to add to the 12 that he already has.
Two locations will have three TV's (picture by a picture!) and one on the patio as well as a large matrix and a control system

All of the parts have arrived at his home, and then he mentioned adding a genie.
I have the "white papers" on making the whole home work when splitting switches.

It will be interesting to see how this works out!

3x C31 to each HR34 if you want it to work correctly. IR/RF setup is in normal setup menu. I did a system last week with 4x C31 and an HR34 and found out the hard way you can't have them all on at the same time. RF remotes DO NOT ship with the units, an have not by default with any directv setup for quite some time now.

We have never had a c31 ship without an RF remote??? look on the back, if there is an FCC sticker it IS rf. To setup the rf it is in the same menu setup as it has always been for all receivers. Also that is why you don't put 4 c31's on a genie, they will support more but can only run 3 at a time. Your setup should have been one hr34, three clients, on h25.

Correct, you need to use a deca injector for systemwide ethernet.

You need the DCCK cinema kit, not the deca injector

So what do you guys think of this system. Any issues?

1 HR34 Genie Family Room
1 HR24 HDDVR Master
3 c31 slaves Living, office, office2
1 H25 Guest Bed

All wired off of a SWM16 and a hardwired Deca.
with whole home all DVRs should be available everywhere.

I was in Idaho doing a remote installation last week, and none of the supplied remotes had the FCC sticker.  Fortunately, it was a vactaion house and I had my Portland client bring several of the unused RF untis from home.

I now know about the limitation, had to find out the hard way.  We even asked specifically about how many units it would support!

This should work just fine as long as they balance the SWM properly. I've done Genie systems with several HD-DVR's before.

Here is another question i should know the answer to.

The C31 slaves, Do they actually have a tuner in them?

No, the HR34 has the 5 tuners. The C31 is just a tunerless client.

The C31's don't have an internal tuner.....but when in use they will utilize one of the tuners in the H34

The dish Hopper system stomps this thing.
Two hoppers, 3 joeys (my system)
6 tuners, 4 terabytes. all accessable from anywhere.
Just sayin. :)

The genie is a turd that cannot be polished. This is the one thing i think Dish has over DTV

yes the hopper has 6 tuners and the genie has 5.

but dish gives you 6 tuners and only allows you to use 3, the other three are recording common shows so it can somewhat mimic cables "start over".

so if your 3 joeys are running your hopper will have to watch something recorded or wait for a joey to free up a tuner. (that's Convenience!!)

Now this gets even better....when primetime comes into play the hopper will utilize 2 more of the 6 tuners now equalling 5 tuners tied up recording every primetime show so they can do the instant "on demand or start over". That will leave you only one tv that can watch something other than recorded content or primetime shows. If you choose to watch a primetime show it will appear you are watching it live, but you are really streaming it as recorded and will not eat up your last tuner.

Now between 12AM and 5AM the hopper will give you all 6 of your tuners. Wow that's amazing most people are sleeping at that time.

Directv gives you all 5 tuners ALL the time. Yes if you are using a client it WILL use one of the tuners, but the joeys do the same. Directv does not block any of your tuners at certain times of the day, Dish does.

I would chock that up a stomping!!

ohh and BTW your hopper only has a 2 terabyte hard drive not 4.

I'd say that's one hell of a polished turd
