Aren't all you guys wasting your time replying to timshows? I've run install crews for 5 years and I'm an 06 journeyman in washington state. Around here we call these guys 'trunk slammers'! Be afraid, for one of you may have to fix his stuff someday!

JPL,
Yes we're wasting out time but it sure is a fun way to waste it. Now if this guy would ask some detailed questions that we could give somewhat precise answers to then maybe we'd help him out, but it seems that's not going to happen so let the good times roll (3 times a day).

Well, I see why you guys go this all day long. It is quite addicting. I get home and first thing I want to do is to check what you guys have to say. However during the day, unlike you guys, I have been pretty productive. Just in the last few days. I have already met with HAI and Crestron. Both ends of the spectrum. I told them the senario about as vague as I told you guys and they totally understood. Using the term Home Automation. I ever asked the guys about these forums and they told me to stay about from all the "whos dick is bigger" guys. But I just cant stay away, it must be the love :) Anyway

Here is what I am doing. I will use HAI's standard package (Omni LT) in every home built. However, will give to home owner chances to up grade to the OmniPro 2 and any upgrade features in between. If the home owner want top of the line, I will then bring in Crestron. I have also got approved to start, so I will be given multiple houses for test runs and practice. I have the full support of both companies. I mean they are willing to bend over backwards. I also found and HAI guru how I met and got along great with (How to win friends) and he have me almost every bit of his code that he has written. And trust me he is one of the guys that help start the company way back when. I will give his name at a latter date. I found out that I do have to get security certified and it is not easy. So sorry guys, thats what I will be spending my nights doing. I will be back though. Um, thats about it. Let me know what you guys think, which Im sure you will. Thanks

You know timshows, I can relate. Sometimes this place can get addicting. You came for advice, you obviously confuse making money with being a skilled integrator and will screw any homeowner or builder neccesary to make a buck. Crestron and HAI will talk to anyone who will make them money so what's your point? What good is having a parasite for a friend? There is no benefit to you being here or for me assisting you. Perhaps some of the Florida(or wherever the f*** your from) guys can make some money off your victims. One can only hope. By the way you must have lots of friends if you need to spend your time here talking to people who don't like you. Have a nice day.

Tim,

that HAI and (suprisingly) Crestron are ready to bend over backwards should be a warning. They won't be left holding the bag when this doesn't work, you will.

But then again, you don't really know the difference between all of this stuff,now....do you?

sentence fragment (the word AT would change this!)

It is quite addicting.

yes it is

I get home and first
thing I want to do is to check what you guys have
to say.

So do I...I have alot to learn from these guys!

However during the day, unlike you guys,
I have been pretty productive.

WRONG. Productivity is relative, and gauged on tasks completed, against those expected, against overall job description. Today, I sold a 15K phone system, built 40K worth of computers for a large dental firm , and re-vamped 45K worth of proposals (which probably 20K will be approved, AND I wrote my monthly column for a professional publication you may or may not have heard of!

Just in the last
few days.

sentence fragment

I have already met with HAI and Crestron.

I am proud of you. If you were planning to meet with these folks anyway, why'd you inquire here?

Both ends of the spectrum.

Not really...sure, Crestron and AMX are the high end...but you can go MUCH lower than HAI, maybe even put some MORE money in your pocket!

I told them the senario
about as vague as I told you guys and they totally
understood. Using the term Home Automation.

No they didn't! They said, "what do you mean?"

I ever asked the guys about these forums and
they told me to stay about from all the "whos
dick is bigger" guys.

completely incoherent sentence fragment, with no meaning except mayber the words, "dick is bigger."

But I just cant stay away,

bummer!

it must be the love :)

again...dillusional

Anyway

whatever...

Here is what I am doing. I will use HAI's standard
package (Omni LT)

available through distribution

in every home built.

that's usually how a house ends up becoming a house!

However,
will give to home owner chances to up grade to
the OmniPro 2

again, through distribtution

and any upgrade features in between.

what is between? a pickle?

If the home owner want top of the line, I will
then bring in Crestron.

you'll "bring in Crestron?" To do what, fix your mistakes?

I have also got approved
to start, so I will be given multiple houses for
test runs and practice.

Hey, Barney the builder, let me practice on your homes please! BULLSHIT!

I have the full support
of both companies.

You're lying.

I mean they are willing to
bend over backwards.

Well, that is indeed the easiest way to get screwed!

I also found and HAI guru
how I met and got along great with (How to win
friends) and he have me almost every bit of his
code that he has written.

sentence fragment, and bullshit!

And trust me he is
one of the guys that help start the company way
back when.

When exactly was HAI, or Crestron, started? If you've met with them, you'll know this exactly, as well as some history! Please share with us nimrods...thanks!

I will give his name at a latter date.

I'm sure we know him, or can figure out who he is...but hey, feel free! Preferably sooner than latter!

I found out that I do have to get security certified

you mean licensed? In Florida...because HAI and Crestron don't REQUIRE certification for anything!

and it is not easy.

hope you pass!

So sorry guys, thats what
I will be spending my nights doing.

yeah, I get my intelligent friends back for some technical discussions?!!!

I will be
back though.

Bummer

Um, thats about it.

Thank God, my fingers are getting sore with all these quotes!

Let me know
what you guys think, which Im sure you will.

I think you're in over your head, and have been for the 3-6 months you've been in this industry. I also think you're about to make a VERY LARGE financial mistake! I would STRONGLY suggest that you set yourself up as an LLC, as you will be limited in your liability that way...ohh, and get ALOT of insurance!

Thanks

you bet

ohh...and one more thing.

If I didn't mention it, you're lying!

Crestron (last I checked, and BELIEVE me, I am in frequent contact because I AM a dealer) required a 15-20K initial investment!

Geez, don't stop in for a couple of days and the sky falls in.....lol

I'll be tossing my two cents in now.

Has been doing structured wiring and home theater wiring in Florida and has no idea of the licensing requirements for security companies?

Has someone been living in a cave?

avdude,

I applaud your ability to disect a post. I can't stop laughing..... Keep up the good work... BTW mine's bigger than yours.

timshows,

Well tim we all know what your showing now. You make it to easy to realize your not telling us the truth.

You started this post just 3 days ago not knowing who Crestron, AMZ (whoops that AMX), or Elan was. Now you've come back and said that you have talked to them in the last few days??? Yeah Right.

And I'm curious because I don't work in florida (although I may move down there to help everybody fix your screwups) and would like to know why you need a security liscense to do home automation???? I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and say that your going to go ahead and sell them a monitoring service contract as well.

So every home will get an HAI to start with. So are you going to go ahead and pre-wire every home for a crestron system as well? Just curious because unless you talk to the customers up front before the home is built then you won't know what they want and if you get to them to late in the game it won't matter because the builder will have all of their money anyways.

And my last question... Just how did you get in so good with your builder??? Don't tell me to read the book because I've done it and it just doesn't work on production builders. The only thing they are interested in is the bottom line and I can assure you no matter how inexpensive your systems are they will be to expensive. Which brings me to another point. Your going to be installing Crestron in PRODUCTION HOMES? All I can say is "YOU DA MAN", I mean we have a hard time getting something like that in the High-End Custom Homes around here.

Please tell me your secrets.

Tim-
I won't waste my time repeating what everyone else has told you, it's obvious your lying and you like the reaction it's getting. I don't even work in this field, my husband does. I read the thread because my husband was laughing so hard I wanted to see what was up. I try my damndest not to listen to my husband when he talks about vendors, programming, installation, trim, etc but just by listening to every other word the man says, I know more than you do. I'm the CFO at a structural engineering firm and we work with 45 builders in Phoenix, Tucson and Las Vegas (kind of big building markets if you haven't heard since your so busy w/ 3 houses a day) Builders would sell their mothers if they thought it save them a nickel on a house. There is no way on god's green earth that they are letting you even come within 100 yards of their homes. You don't even have any licenses, certifications or probably even insurance. For my engineers to even set foot on a job site, we have to show proof of everything you could imagine.

By the way, can you give me some "home automation"? I want my house to rotate, I can't see my view 24/7 from wherever I am. Thanks, your a star.

avx...

I LEARNED that skill here...because guys like QQQ, Ernie_Bjorn Gillman and Impaqt did it to me a few times...several years ago (for DRASTICALLY different reasons however...like the actual meaning and spelling of DISCREET vs. DISCRETE)

and you bring up a great joke:

You know why cops (and possibly guys like timshows...hell even ME on occasion) wear turtlenecks?

It keeps the foreskin down!

AHHH HAAAAA AHHH HAAAAA...

and you should know this by now....it's NOT the size, it;s how you use it!

I have clearly USED my dickhead here the most, but I'm sure it's not the biggest!

You guys got to chill. Don't kill the goose that lays the golden eggs (or pearls of wisdom). For those in Rio Linda that means don't run tshows off like you did NDBEER. It's too much fun and I haven't seen this much creative writing since, well, ND. Anyway, I am officially switching sides. That's right, tshows, I'm with you. I think we need more brash young men like yourself to shake these builders out of their self-imposed cages. So here's to you, Mr. Never seen a wire before, but how hard could it be guy. You are a REAL MAN OF GENIUS. I AM BACKING THIS GUY (give me 100-1), because when you all challenged him, he CALLED the manufacturers REP! How many of YOU would have taken those extraordinary measures, hmmmmmm? So, T, please keep in touch because as Paul Harvey says, we'd like to know the "rest of the story", Mr. I don't know an I-beam from a sun beam.
